I had a hard day at work today, had to lay off three people I'd really like to keep. I was extremely bummed, and then I finally had time to open up my email and read that Alysheba was coming home. What a great thing to read today. Thanks very much to the king for allowing him to come home. I wish I could be there when he comes off the van and smells Kentucky. I'll bet his joy will be very precious.

This is really great news for American racing fans. I lived in Saudi Arabia from 1963 until 1981, long before Abdullah was the king. He was the one largely responsible to starting racing in Saudi Arabia and he really does know about and care about his horses. It is an admirable gesture on his part to allow Alysheba to come to Kentucky. I hope that someone will communicate to King Abdullah that American racing fans thank him.

You can thank President Bush. It is because he visited him on his trip to Saudi Arabia and told the Prince how special he was to the American people, that led to the Prince giving Alysheba back to the Americans as a gift. http://www.kentucky.com/211/story/566462.html

They better mention it for the BC coverage tomorrow. This is a big deal. I wouldn't be shocked if part of why King Abdullah's here is the public offering of Alysheba to the American people. I know he rarely makes the trip and hasn't come in 3 years. Sure he has horses he's enthusiastic about here this year but there's something new that needs on-air coverage. I assumed they were waiting til it was the day of the Classic given Alysheba's connection to it. If they don't bring it up, I'll be annoyed. It deserves a feature segment.

I think you may be thinking of a different fellow - the Saudi Prince Khalid Abdullah of Juddmonte Farm fame is not the same as the Saudi King Abdullah who owned Alysheba. They are, however, cousins.
As far as I know, the King is not currently in the USA.

Ah they really need to specify that when they mention the name on tv. Thanks. I shouldn't be surprised that they didn't clarify when they basically ignored Ms. Pachecho next to Hank. I mean would the occasional name-check have been too hard? How was I to know she was Arlington's paddock analyst? If they mentioned it, it was a blink and you miss it moment.

I often think about the time frame of how a great horse makes it to these far off places. I am sure that Ferdinand ended up in Japan through the endeavours of some zealous agent looking for business after the champ was a dud at stud in America. Perhaps Howard Keck died and his estate wound up his affairs with Ferdinand being another asset to be sold ,I honestly don't know. What I do know is that if I had owned either Ferdinand or Alysheba , both of them reaching the pinnacle of Derby winner/ BC Classic Winner/ Horse of the Year immortality , then I would have made sure that they lived out their lives wanting for nothing and willed that so through my estate if needs be. For Pete's sake I sell cheap claimers into other careers and enquire about them for years after. That being said it certainly is good news that the big horse is back and it serves to remind me of possibly the most exciting race that I ever witnessed . My wife had a share in a horse called Good Taste and he ran against the two big horses in the 1988 San Bernardino Hcp,it never fails to stir emotions and warm memories and can be relived on Youtube.
