"Geraldine Trupia . . . was formally sentenced on Nov. 12 to serve two 3-year supervised probation terms to run concurrently. She was prohibited from working around domestic or companion animals, and she is required to pay restitution for the costs associated with caring for the animals during the seizure.
....She said she feels the seizure was financially motivated.
"I learned that I am responsible for over $60,000 in restitution to cover the expenses for the (seized) horses," she said. "I believe that this entire seizure was set up to get the funds needed to build the new equine barn that the Finger Lakes is so anxious to have."
SPCA Executive Director Vicki Mosgrove said any restitution funds would go toward covering expenses incurred by horses' foster care providers.
"The funds are for the horses, not for the SPCA," Mosgrove said.
A judge will set final restitution figures during a Dec. 10 court appearance."

I will never forgive her for that sentence.

That a$$inine comment just goes to show you that she has not taken responsibility for what SHE put those horses through. Are they supposed to unlock their own doors and feed themselves???? Can't she see that they died in her care?? At least one horse was found dead at the scene!!!! How about the countless others over the years that only she and her mother knew about??? Obviously she is not going to admit to her wrong doing. No use knocking when no one is home!!!!
Hopefully they will make her pay that restitution money for the care those horses need. It is her doing and her responsibility to provide the money for the care they were obviously lacking when she was in control. If she would have looked after them in the first place then it wouldn't have cost her so much!!! Some people just don't get it do they????

That is what bothers me about the whole thing. I can almost imagine being so barn blind that you can't see the situation when its right in front of you, but having dead a dying animals all around and watching as they were all carted away should be enough to snap anyone out of it. For crying out loud APOLOGIZE to the horses if not to the people who you hurt. Admit your mistake and make amends. Get boatloads of psychotherapy, there are trees in the forest.
There is an animal cruelty sentencing pending in WA state Dec 5 against Dean Marie Solomon. This is what the prosecutor had to say:
.... As part of the plea agreement the State will not be recommend jail time but will recommend the following conditions: Mental health evaluation and treatment 240 hours of community service Not to possess any horses until she is in compliance with mental health treatment and makes a showing to the court that she is financially, physically, and mentally capable of caring for them. Allow Animal Control reasonable access to all locations animals are boarded in the future. 24 months of probation......We believe this resolution and recommended sentence will serve notice that neglecting animals will not be tolerated.
Are you kidding me? The last line infuriates me to no end. A slap on the wrist and she'll never abuse an animal again or use her sociopathic tendencies to con people into thinking she's a horse lover. Give me a break.
I guarantee Solomon, who posed as a TB RESCUE will come up with a similar excues to Gerry's. I am saddened to think that both women will repeat their actions again at a later date and the horses will suffer for it. All I can hope is that we band together and if either of these slimeballs show up we chase them out of town. Over and over and over again if necessary.

What really floored me was when the SPCA went into her place and took all the horses and the cats. They left the cows there!!!!! I saw a photo on one of them just tied up to the barn, no food or water pail within sight.
Why would they even leave a cow there. They are an animal and can suffer like others. Did they not deserve a better situation than that?????? Even slaughter is better than starving a cow to death.

One of the things that bothers me is that 60k will follow her around but not her mother. Her mother can continue to buy houses (with acreage) and trucks and trailers etc and essentially continue to enable the daughter who was convicted. The daughter can rent a room anywhere, call it her legal residence while Mommy owns the animals elsewhere. This is a loophole that an overburdened system should have closed. Was the mother held accountable for anything?

The above grandiose explanation for the tragic events that took place begs the prosecutor recommended mental health evaluation.

barn
i could build a helluva barn for 60,000
might just be a 4 staller, though. i hate this Gerry woman, for what she did, and I CAN believe she is that disturbed, it happens all the time with hoarders with small animals, I cannot believe she is so delusional and unapologetic about it. But still, I say if anyone wants to play with 60,000, I can build a spectacular barn with that kindof money.
