does Equibase adjust US dollars on record?

Postby Toccet02 » Mon May 16, 2011 6:54 am

I have a couple of runners that I follow who have earned purses in Canadian funds. The charts always specify what that Canadian dollar amount is in US dollars. I keep a spreadsheet of the total winnings in US dollars. I have noticed some discrepancies on the Equibase horse lookup totals that don't match my totals, and I'm pretty careful.
Do they adjust the winnings for the fluctuating currency values??
PS...at last, the US equivalent is HIGHER than the Canadian . . . by a bit.

Yes, they do. I have no idea why but I've also found that horses we've bred that have run in other countries have earnings that fluctuate. Even after they're retired, lol.

Bizzare. At some point they have to stop...unless they want to start adjusting all old records for inflation, too!

Actually, they don't have to stop and it is a little bit easier if they don't. If they 'fixed' the US dollar amount on the day the purse was earned they would have to keep a record of the exchange rate on that day as well as the foreign currency amount. By only recording the foreign currency it is simply a matter of applying the current exchange rate. I don't know what system they are actually using, but with everything computerized they can set things up to work automatically with minimal effort.
