Animal Kingdom out for the year
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.

not a Barbaro scenario, thank the Lord but ...
As posted in the 'Triple Crown we didn't see coming' thread -
"I liked AK in the Derby and he may win the Preakness. But I am very doubtful about a TC. As a lightly raced late developer, yes, he was sharp and ready for a big race. He may be able to sustain another one 14 days later in a more demanding race (speed wise) against fresh shooters. But I doubt he has deep reserves in his muscular/skeletal physiology to do all three.
The next one to win a TC will be one that was a Graded SW at 2 on the dirt, maybe even skipped the demands of the BC, and trained forwardly (even if not brilliantly) at 3. AK doesn't fit that profile, although he has the pedigree to do it.
I am actually more afraid of a Barbaro type of scenario - and pray not. "
Out for the year at best - my guess is he goes to the breeding shed. I don't think he is anymore unsound than the other horses in the TC, just not enough races prior to hold up to grueling 3 race run.
Hope he gets through surgery in fit fettle and is able to return.

Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.
Kincsem
Hello,
here is the reason why I'm "rfviving" an old topic.
After the win of the "Derby" by Camelot, there was much talking of the great race mare Kincsem and her descents.
It isn't obvious at first sight, but you have to dig a litlle bit deeper in the ped of the abovementioned racehorse/maybe Sire. Kincsem was already "smuggled into the U.S.", the culprit is Dalicia, his Germanbred dam.
The third dam Diasprina is bred 6 x 5 x 6 Winnica (Wahnfried/Waldcanter). The dam of her Sire Aspros is 3 x 4 Winnica. Next in line is Diu by Utrillo, his dam Unterwegs is 7 x 6 Kincsem (Ollyan-Nincs/Talpra Magyar FB/FS)
Regards, Bettina
