Margot Did

Postby madelyn » Sat Aug 20, 2011 11:05 am

Margot Did got a pretty big upset victory in a "Win and You're In" Group 1 race
http://www.paulickreport.com/news/thoro ... d-group-1/

Margot Did is not breeder's cup nominated - her status is "NOT R1" which indicates the sire was paid in.. and that she can be nominated for $100,000. Does the "win and you're in" mean that her connections won't have to pay the $100K now?

List of the Breeders Cup Challenge Races : You Win And You Will Automatically Get A Gate Ticket To The Respective Division :

http://www.andheretheycome.com/page12.html

Margot Did (Nunthorpe), Stacelita (Beverly D), Cape Blanco (Arlington M), IMMORTAL VERSE (PRIX DU JACQUES LE MAROIS) are the 4 latest
to receive an invite to run on the BC Day in early November.

So far only Tizway got 2 tickets (Classic and Dirt Mile). Respectable Sarafina had also paid her due and secured a place in Turf.

First Dude scored another very tight win in the Hollywood Gold Cup thanks to the 1 and 2.5 kg resp given by Game On Dude (nose, 2nd) and
Twirling Candy (neck, 3rd). With this blessing he was awarded a berth in Classic.

Yes, but.. does the "win and you're in" mean the horse no longer needs to be nominated ie: eligible?

the way i read it is that it's now win and you really are in, not like in the past.

Haven't checked the rules but I believe that the supplemental nomination is not necessary in this case. The idea being that they want the best horses to race in the championship races. Without the supplemental nomination there will be no bonuses paid out if the horse were to finish in the money, only the purse share gets paid out.

All the more reason never to pay that stupid nomination fee ever again.

Yes, Laurie, that is where I was going with that.. including the "stupid" stallion nomination. If I end up with a horse good enough for BC, the horse can "win and you're in" for its berth.

Very good point.. Perhaps they are thinking the win and your in is far tougher than nominating and picking progressive spots. Both are lottery type odds.
