The connections thought enough of this filly to send her to the Breeders Cup last year and this is what she's up to these days....Spring Venture

I think she has an attitude problem. Casse compared the two Spring fillies he had last year, Spring in the Air and Spring Venture.

"Spring in the Air and Spring Venture, even I get the two confused. She's the bay and other is a chestnut. But actually, Spring Venture is so mean and such a handful that we all know which one she is. They couldn't be more opposite. Spring in the Air is really sweet and nice to be around."

Spring in the Air ran a huge race yesterday to just get beat by Nipissing in the Canadian Oaks.

Totally. She didn't wanna go in the gate in the first place, not in that 'I'm claustrophobic' kinda way that horses can be. More like a 'I'm not gonna run, you're wasting your time even putting me in here' kinda way.

Too smart for her own good. She knew she didn't have to do squat. I guess it depends on whether she's a mental case that can be managed or whether she's soured.

I've heard she's temperamental. I would think those rumors are true after witnessing that race!

I predict that Spring Venture is about to become a broody. At which point, she will no doubt produce mean and uncooperative offspring who will wind up in horse rescues. But she'll still be bred, no doubt. :roll:

Of course she will be bred a G2 winner, shes worth a fortune and her offspring will be too.

She is from the family of Cozzene also.

A fine female family and to say her offspring will end up in rescues is stupid, they will end up in some of the finest trainers hands.

Actually, that doesn't follow.

Just because a horse has a horrible disposition doesn't mean its offspring will have horrible dispositions, or vice versa. Ribot was absolutely bat poop crazy and his most famous Darby Dan sons, Graustark and His Majesty, were tough-minded but not evil. Dynaformer was carnivorous and yet Barbaro was not known to have serious vices. On the other side, Almahmoud was said to be easygoing as a broodmare, Natalma high-strung on the track, Cosmah kind of a bitch, and Halo downright evil.

What's more important than whether or not they are nice is whether they can run. Absolute sweeties who are dead slow wind up in rescues a lot more than jerks who win big checks.

There is a story about the time the lease was up on Ribot and when some people from England came to see they turned him out in his paddock and he tried to mount a tree... that's when they decided to leave him here.

He would also grab onto a big piece of wood on the side of his stall just over a window and try to hang himself. After he died they determined he had a brain tumor that might have accounted for his abnormal behavior.

We are all products of our environment. There's also a fine line between being mean and being aggressive and that is why her behavior is probably tolerated.

Maybe she is just sour, filly just turned 3 and has been hard run in my opinion. Started off with 3 wins at Woodbine last year, then went to Santa Anita to run in the BC, then off to Gulfstream and then Keeneland and now back at Woodbine again.

Something might be bugging her and she's smart enough to make them listen by pulling this stunt.

Went back to see what had happened to this talented filly, out of curiosity, and Spring Venture was sold for $625,000 to Cliff Brown at the Fasig Tipton November sale as a racing/broodmare prospect.
