High Fly being by Atticus standing for $4,000 and Greater Good being by Intadab standing for $3500 are the working class are doing extremely well considering the expensive breeding of Consolidator, Sweet Catomine, Bandini, Rockport Harbor, Survivalist, Storm Surge,Scipion, and several others by $100,000 + stud fee sires.

High Fly and Greater Good are the working class.

Atticus is not really blue collar, just an example of the fickleness of the market. He was a millionaire earner by Nureyev out of a mare who earned over $300K. There's no reason why he and other Theatrical horses are not commercially acceptable except the turf bias and the tendency to improve with age. Obviously a nice breed to race sire, although his stud fee will likely go up next year.
Intidab is out of a Mr. Prospector mare, but not from a famous female line. Good for him. Congratulations to the connections.

Hi Henthorn,
Atticus is by Nureyev directly, as opposed to being a son of Theatrical.
I agree with you that the turf thing doesn't help, but though Atticus broke the World Record for a mile at five, at 3 he finished 2nd in the French 2000 Guineas, which is of course a highly prestigious Classic race in that Country.
Atticus hasn't been getting so many mares (a mere 205 to race); but those that he does get are pretty nice if the Ol' Comparable Index is to be believed (his AEI/CI is 1.02/1.92).
This may reflect that he's throwing to some stamina oriented part of his ped (such as Luthier) though and his numbers may improve as his get matures as his AWD is a pretty high 7.97.
Put to a Slewpy mare, he's a good deal for sure. But I wouldn't say his low fee is not a fair reflection of what he's done so far (or at least was before High Fly).
Even now, there are such things as one horse sires...and if people don't give the Atticus/Slewpy nick enough shots to work, Atticus may well join their numbers.

High Fly wins again
High Fly wins again and not even considered the best three year old in his stable. The top two finishers of the Florida derby are considered to have turf sires. High Fly is definitely a standout for his sire who has not well at stud but has got the big horse in High Fly. Good luck High Fly in the Kentucky Derby.

Freddymo, you got me! Part of it is that there are more opportunities to race on the dirt in the US than the turf, and people want to be spending good money on a horse they can get the most out of. In Europe, many horses with poor conformation are raced on grass without problems, but the same conformation problems wouldn't do well on hard dirt tracks in the US, particularly in California. Until recently, most US turf races were at a distance of ground, and Americans are entranced with speed and instant racing, so won't spend money on a horse perceived to be late-bloomers or confined to distance racing.
