I watched the race on calracing.com (thanks tariatacres) and he broke fine, but when he swapped to his left lead going into the turn his head went up and he noticeably shortened stride. Pulling up in the head on view, he did not look good. Perhaps, Mr. Zito will listen to Mr. Bailey the next time he says a horse is sore. :?

Bloodhorse reports the horse is fine and has no injury, but he looked sore when he swapped leads. Rider said he just stopped.

Quite a drama, first with Bailey scratching Noble Causeway at the gate in the Jim Dandy... that is unusual in a G2, I think. Then NC gets pulled up by another jockey in an allowance a week later - a race which Jerry Bailey wins on a different mount - Ice Wynnd Fire (spelling?). Enough for a good short story.... Hope NC was OK. I think there was another horse that was pulled up in the same allowance. Does anyone know if either or both are OK?

Austique,

good to hear Noble Causeway is reported OK. I wonder what's going on though - something must be bothering him.

They say there is no limb injury and that there has to be some other physical problem. The other horse appeared to pull up in very little distress and looked as if he just blew the turn.

You know after reading some of the articles about yesterday's debacle this sounds astoundingly like a mare we had named Miss Akins Outlaw. She worked one day and looked astounding but pulling up she suddenly when lame all over. It was bad enough the jockey hopped off thinking she had broken something and within seconds she was walking sound nad bouncing around. It turned out she had trouble breaking down glucose stores and had to have a readily available source of glucose before any works or races. Her issue showed up all of the sudden as well and the mare had no other physical issues that were bothering her. Strange.

maybe NC has some similar issue... he was described as not warming up properly - being too stiff. It does sound a bit like there might be some systemic imbalance, such as a horse tying up. Though if he jerked his head up on changing leads, you'd be less likely to think of something systemic.... who knows. it would be interesting to see if something is diagnosed.
