What are Good Nijinsky Nicks?

Postby ragsdaj » Thu Mar 09, 2006 12:52 pm

I would like to know if there are any A nicks out there for Nijinsky. I have a mare I want to dabble some hypo mates with.

The highest I have been able to come up with is a B+ from Capote and Deputy Minister. Know of anything better than that?

Thanks

I don't know what the rating is, but Nijinsky is known to nick with Blushing Groom.

Thanks.. I read that on this board somewhere before too. When I check mare out with Runaway Groom get a B rating. Still better than average.
I have tried several sire lines but have yet to see anything better than a B+. Just wanted to see if enick might make me look at a line I might be discounting.

Quite a few years back I had the privilege of having lunch with Leon Rasmussen and Ellen Parker. During lunch we talked about our then new Apalachee stallion and what sort of mares we should look for for him. Both pointed us towards Nijinsky as one of their top picks. It was the Round Table cross that both liked to Nijinsky. Sad for us, we were the under bidders quite a few times on Nijinsky mares and never were able to make that mating. Since there are only a few horses left to try this with, you might want to consider it. K One King, naturally, and if you're willing to try a breed to race only horse, our Prince Bobby B.

Appreciate the suggestions and PMs received. Thanks.

when nicking my mare she nicks with Nijinsky because her sire will never have enough data to nick with. Her name is Impetuous by Palmister ex Involute. She has some interesting breeding going on in there and yes some Round Table in the sire would be favorable.

I'll take a look at the names mentioned and I will have to double check but Bobby B has come up in my research. My mare has no commercial appeal so racing is the best I can hope to achieve. Florida is a long way from AR though.

I think Woodman should be a pretty good Nick.

Nijinsky nicks

Blushing Groom gave a VGS score of 1.48. Raise a Native VGS score 1.31 and Woodman VGS score 1.96 (Way to go Brendan!)

If you like the woodman nick, I stand an exellent stallion, named Honor Defend in NJ. He is a half brother to Grass Wonder (a very successful race horse and stallion in Japan--foal crops average 180 foals a year in the northern hemisphere alone. He also stands in Austrailia, not sure what his foal crops have averaged there. Grass Wonder made 5.9 Million and was a champion 2 yr old colt. He lead Japans First and Second crop sire list) Honor is also a half brother to Wonder Again, another winner of 1.4 Million. His mother is owned by Darby Dan Farm and is still producing some excellent foals-- so the potential is there for even more great horses to come from this mare. Check out his female family--he hails from one of the greatest stallion producing families in all of the world, with the great stallions of Rahy, Singspiel, Saint Ballado, Mehmet, Devils Bag,Parade Ground and several other outstanding stallions -----all within his fourth dam or lower. He is also closely related to several great females as well, mares such as Glorious Song, Ballade, Tribulation, Soring, Battle Creek Girl, Wings of Grace and many others---Check out his pedigree, I think you will be impressed.
His first crop of two years hit the track this year and all of his babies are big, leggy and very athlethic looking. I won't have any numbers (from my own privately devised system) on him until after some of his foals start to race but everyone that has one of his babies is very pleased with them.
I have been looking for Nijinsky mares to breed to him, so if you know of any for sale, I would be very interested in purchasing some.
Don't forget the NJ stallion program--- it is an exceptional program with dual state registry an incredible benefit.
Hope I don't sound too pushy, just trying to help out and share some information. Would be very glad to help out a fellow board member.
best regards Brendan

I just looked at your mares pedigree--I think a stallion by Valid Appeal or In Reality would be an interesting choice as well. You have a lot going on in the female side of that pedigree and you shouldn't leave that out in your stallion selections. She hails from a very good female family. Be careful when using a nicking system with her--I think you could easily be steered in the wrong direction with her.

I agree the femaile side is just as interesting: fappiano fager cequillo. My initial shot at this was to look at In Reality line. I have also thought about a holy bull son as a possibility. I wasn't sure I wanted any more prospector though some other board input indicates with Fappiano I won't have to rule it out.

I am asking for ideas so no input is viewed negatively.

thanks for the assistance.

hello, ragsdaj, your mare does have an interesting pedigree as usually esp latley I've been caught up in more commerical appeal pedigree mating so its fun to look at things more based on trying to breed a racehorse. I am in Arkansas as well. I would tend to not focus so much on nicks ratings because at first glance your mares stongpoints look to be more from her dam something nick grades do not consider. Palmister didnt show much for whatever reason on the track but is a 3/4 to Irish champion & champion producing sire & broodmare sire Caerleon. It may be wise in your nick ratings to do them with Caerleon, who I remember is A+ with Sunday Silence & is very high & fits best with Rahy who of course is out of the great Glorious Song by Halo & is by afore mentioned Blushing Groom. Rahy has also done very well with Fappiano. The main problem is finding a nice son of Rahy that is a usable stallion. The best son in the US I think is Bop but he is out of a Fappiano mare & is already inbred to Rough N Tumble. You may like adding more as Dr Fager was as good as they come but I just dont like that much inbreeding & or the way that pedigree fits. Other Rahy's include Dumyat in MD (who is a half to Aptitude), Foley's Halo in MN, Mymidon in OK, Rahy Rahy in Texas, Rahy's Crackerjack in CA & Watch The Bird in NY. Of those the two that you may look at Mymidon & Rahy Rahy but I just cant see where they have much going for them. Swain has been a very common sire well a very bad sire actually but has done very well with Caerleon & Nijinsky so he may be worth a look as a huge discounted stud fee. I havent looked at your mares page so i cant comment on her blacktype but from a pedigree standpoint she fits very well with Swain. Another KY stud I would consider at first thought would be David Copperfield. I bet you could get to him for a very reasonable price. If you are breeding in AR I'm sure you have looked at Storm and a Half & or Goodbye Doeny as Storm Cat has done well with Nijinsky as he & Storm Bird are like bred. Goodbye Doeny would get my nod there in being out of a Halo mare. I'm not very much on inbreeding to Nijinsky but in our area I think Garbu who is in Ok is a nice horse to use in breeding to race. Round Table back on top is an interesting way to look at it with the afore mentioned K One King standing in North La. He was a nice racehorse but was never going to get a shot at stud in KY so he very well may be worth looking at. Of course all of this is before phyical inspection as I would never want to or would never breed to a horse on just a paper mating alone but I hope some of my top of my head ideas may have been of some help & best of luck in your mating.

Nijinsky II produced superior nicks when bred to Round Table mares.

N was bred to 48 RT mares and produced 39 winners and 17 SW.

N produced superior nicks when bred to Dr. Fager mares.

N was bred to 9 DF mares and produced 7 winners and 3 SW.

N produced superior nicks when bred to Klarion mares.

N was bred to 7 Klarion mares and produced 7 winners and 2 SW.

Look for a stallion that has these sire lines on the dam side of his pedigree as well on his sire side.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

Jon,

The gal that stands Prince Bobby B in FLA, posts to this board. Her name is Anne. Do a search of Prince Bobby B on the message board and you will come up with her profile. Just in case you'd like to get info almost straight from the horse's mouth.

I watched Bobby B run, here in CA. Nice horse! I know she would appreciate the opportunity to breed to some decent mares. Very nice gal.

Woops...duh...I see Ann posted about Bobby B
