Any Recommended Sales Prep/Consignors for F-T June Sale MD?

Postby jellac » Thu May 11, 2006 9:09 am

I'd like to know what consignors/sales prep agents you have had experience with or consider a good representative for 2YOs under saddle. This is for the late (June 26th) sale at Timonium MD. I'm considering shipping in a Tx-bred filly with light catalog page but smooth stride mechanics and speed over the 1/8th of a mile by a sire who can throw a GSW 2YO. She looks the part and I'm told she should be able to turn in something in 10.4 or better based on how she's training....

PLEASE PM me if you do not wish to discuss openly.

Jellac,
I assume your filly is down in Texas training right now. That track at Timonium MD is really deep and slow. A 10.4 at Lone Star would translate into a 11.1 at Timonium....

I know Safari Bloodstock is based in Texas and they come to Maryland to sell horses. They do a decent job. Fasig should have contact info for Safari.

In Maryland, Contact David Wade at Northview Stallion Station. He runs their consignment division. He is a class act and as honest a person as I have met in the thoroughbred industry.

I would suggest Marshall Silverman...he is quite well known at timonium and has a good reputation. PM me if you would like his phone #

I stand by David Wade as my top recommendation, but if I had to suggest an alternate it would be Becky Davis.

Gerry, DoubleDownStables, HRLLC (and those that replied via PM) - Thanks to all of you - I appreciate the response and recommendations and will file away for another day. As it turns out my filly has recently undertaken one of those awkward growth spurts such that she has gone from having a very nice, level topline to being very butt high, i.e. built downhill. Neither her sire nor dam exhibit this conformation and it is not what she has looked like most of her own life, so I do expect her to 're-balance' front to back eventually. Meanwhile, I don't want to risk injuring her while she's so unbalanced front to back, trying to get the sort of timed work that would enable her to sell well.

P.S. - If I knew how one goes about "posting" those photos so that they show up within the message I'd show you what I mean. (hint hint: I'm open to technical instruction to accomplish this but please keep it simple!)

She is still "muy bonita!" as the farm assistant told me very admiringly - everyone loves these "black" horses - but to my mind she needs some time to just 'grow up' a bit before being pressed for more rigorous performance. Right now she's training well - very focused and business like about her sessions on the track - not goofy and flighty at all. She definitely sticks to task and seems to relish the outings, has shown some keeness for competition when worked with others, when asked, and some speed without being hard pressed for it. Looking for a 'bright lining' to this disappointment: One thing that is a "bonus" out of this disappointment is that she is going to mature at a nice height, at least 15.3/16HH and I'm guessing more. I guess breeding my 15.3HH mare who always downsizes her 'mates' in terms of subsequent offspring, to a much taller stallion wasn't a mistake - it looks like I'm going to have a filly that is a tad taller than her "Mum" and not near as tall as her "Dad".

What is the average or approximate cost for getting a two year old or yearling ready for the Fasig Timonium sale vs the average or approximate sales price for two year olds and tearlings at Fasig Timonium?

Thanks Henthorn - I set up an account with photobucket and loaded some photos of my filly. Hopefully you can view them from this link without further ado.

It took me a while to get set up with Photobucket b/c the replies they were sending to my efforts (with account user ID and PW) were being automaticly treated as "Junk" by my hotmail account and I didn't think to take a look at that folder for a several days....<sheepish shrug>

Click on the Album "Commandora" and then Select slideshow from the offered options at the bottom and that should take you to my filly's album. I haven't any photos yet in the others I'd set up. (P.S. - IF you need the PW to access the album it's "Noontime")

Gerry -

When you click on the Photobuckets link I provided it asks for a password.
Type in "Noontime"

It opens with the "album" (folder) labeled "Bastante Grande" already selected. That one is empty for the moment.

Instead select the album labeled "Commandora"

Then hit the choice "Slideshow" below that and you'll get to see the four images.

I have from one a few hours after she was foaled, to one of her racing against a chestnut pasture pal as a late yearling to two taken recently at age 2YO - conformation type shots.

It should work if you do this - and I apologize for so many steps - I understand you can provide the direct link to an album but haven't quite figured out how doing that is different from what I did this go-round.
