| His dam "a barb mare," was imported c1670 to Charles II's Hampton Court stud,
It has been postulated he is same horse as Darcy's Yellow Turk (DYT) as some sources say Trumpet's Dam is by Dodsworth (D) and others by DYT. Alternative view - This is possible, although contrary evidence is:- 1) Cheny 1743 Miss Makeless pedigree, and Caledonian Mercury 22 May 1765 Tartar pedigree, both refer to DYT and D separately in same pedigree as different horses 2) Newcastle Courant 23 Mar 1727 refers to DYT as sire of all best horses in England 40-50 years ago, inconsistent with D born 1670 (who would first have runners only in c1682), but consistent with DYT born c1658
Dodsworth sires a few broodmares that breed on, the only lasting contribution being Trumpet's Dam, the third earliest mare in Family 4 and grandam of Brown Farewell, the grandam of Matchem, 3 time Champion Sire and main conduit of continuing the direct male line of the Godolphin Arabian into the 19th and 20th centuries and (barely) to today
