A full brother to the Classic winners and champions Persimmon and Diamond Jubilee and to the good Cup horse Florizel II, but described by John E. Madden as "a great roaring brute"; nowhere near the standard of his brothers as a racehorse.
As for his stud performance, he is also reputed to have been the source of another famous Madden quote: "Once you have discovered that a horse is no good, his relatives don't help him much."
