| Breeder: Englebert Leedes
Traditionally shown as the Foundation Mare of Family 61, which lasts until the 1780s, the only significant horse in the Family being Blaze (1739 King's Plates Winchester, Lewes, 1740 King's Plate Newmarket and Champion Sire 1751), of which Bright's Roan is 3rd dam.
However, in a pedigree for Blaze in the 2nd Marquis of Rockingham's pedigree collection, the pedigree of Bright's Roan, certified as being correct from his Stud Book by Edward Leedes (descendant of Englebert Leedes, owner of Bright Roan's sire) is "got by his Turk [Leedes Arabian], which got Bay Leeds, her Dam by Willoughby,
her Gran Dam was a Daughter of the famous running Roan Mare of Sir Christopher Wivill's, got by Dodsworth", thereby extending the pedigree of Bright's Roan back a further three generations. The Founding Mare of Family 61 is therefore [Sir Christopher] Wyvill's Roan Mare. Christopher Wyvill died in 1681.
