Imported in 1700 from Barbary in North Africa, along with the mare Slugey ("a natural barb") carrying his foal [Old] Greyhound), and stood at Hampton Court Stud.
Sire of 1) the very significant sire [Old] Greyhound, who sired many offspring which contributed to the development of the thoroughbred; 2);Cripple Barb [Croft's Bay Barb], sire of Lusty Thornton, from which the vast majority of Family 2 descends, and Mr. [Lewis] Elstob's Cripple Barb Mare, the dam of the good stallion Cartouch; 3);dam of the successful sire [Gallant's] Smiling Tom;
and 4) [Halifax] Farmer Mare, through which Family 27 descends
