| Owner: 1) James Darcy the elder 2) James Darcy the younger
Darcy's Yellow Turk (DYT) is probably foaled 1658c and stands at James Darcy's Sedbury stud, Yorkshire. DYT's influence is immense as all 3 foundation sires Matchem, Herod and Eclipse carry at least 4 strains of DYT, Eclipse having six. DYT sires the highly important stallion Spanker (described as best racehorse at Newmarket in Charles II's time) and Brimmer, sire of many influential broodmares.
Much controversy surrounds DYT; some believe he is imported, others that his sire is Place's White Turk, bred by James Darcy the elder; he is also speculated to be the same horse as Dodsworth (D). Alternative view - The latter is possible, although contrary evidence is:-
1) Cheny 1743 Miss Makeless pedigree, and Caledonian Mercury 22 May 1765 Tartar pedigree, both refer to DYT and D separately in the same pedigree as different horses 2) Newcastle Courant 23 March 1727 refers to DYT as sire of all best horses in England 40-50 years ago, inconsistent with D's foaling date 1670 (whose first runners would only be in 1680c), but consistent with DYT foaling 1658c
