| Owner: John Holles, 1st Duke of Newcastle
His first appearance in the records of the Duke of Newcastle's Welbeck stud is in 1707, although no record of his acquisition is found in the Duke's documents.
Sire of 1) an unnamed mare which is dam of Morat (1731 King's Plate Newmarket); grandam of Sister to Slipby, the grandam of Snap (Champion Sire 1767, 1768, 1769 and 1771) and 5th dam of the great racehorse and successful sire Hambletonian (1795 St Leger, 1795 and 1796 Doncaster Cup); and of 2) Duchess, grandam of Ground Ivy (1745 King's Plate The Curragh)
The Newcastle Turk appears to have been purchased by James Darcy at the dispersal and sale of the Welbeck stud horses after the death of the Duchess of Newcastle, Margaret Holles, in 1716, possibly "with a mare which Darcy had ineffectually tried to obtain from the Duchess in her lifetime".
