| Owner: Thomas Pulleine
Thomas Pulleine of Carlton Hall, near Richmond, Yorkshire, was Master of the Stud to King William III
Lord Wharton's Stud Book, 1683-1711, An Account of my Stallions taken September 1708, says "The Chesnut Arab I had from Mr. Poulaine who gave 300 guinies for him when he came lame over. King Charles sayd he was the hansomest horse that he did ever see"
Pulleine's Chesnut Arabian must have been foaled before 1685 for King Charles to have seen him, and still be alive in 1708 so was probably foaled 1681c.
Sire of the successful sire [Ancaster] Merlin; of Old Lady, grandam of top class racehorse [Bolton] Starling (1733 King's Plates Lewes, Lincoln, Newmarket, 1734 King's Plate Newmarket); and a couple of other unnamed mares which breed on producing fair class winners
