Foundation Mare American Family A34
The family, which is still extant, has produced many top class horses, including Belle of Runnymede (1882 Alabama Stakes); the superb racemare Miss Woodford, 37 victories from 48 career starts including 16 consecutive races between 1883 and 1885, her principal victories including 1882 Spinaway Stakes, 1883 Alabama Stakes, 1884 Champion Stakes, career earnings of $118,270, the highest stakes winning filly in American history up to that time; Scottish Chieftain (1897 Belmont) and Effendi (1909 Preakness)
Entered in Hoomes' [Bowling Green] stud book as Sally Wright, undated, no coat color given, bred by Col. Tayloe, "out of a full bred mare of his". Early attempts to reconstruct Sally Wright's damside pedigree by Edgar and later Bruce traced her to Jenny Cameron (1742) but three Tayloe mares from other families are more likely candidates. (Ref. F. Harrison, EATS 1:90-91, citing ATR 2:100 et al.)
