| At 2: Won Clearwell S., Richmond S.
Undefeated as a juvenile, *Challenger II was the winter book favorite for the 1930 Epsom Derby. However, he was unable to start in the race because of the death of his owner, Lord Dewar, two months earlier. (The racing rules in England at the time stipulated that a horse's stakes nominations were made void on the death of its owner; in the wake of the *Challenger II case, the rule was rescinded soon thereafter.)
*Challenger II was purchased from Lord Dewar's estate by the partnership of William Brann and Robert Castle, but cut his hocks severely on barbed wire before leaving England, and was never able to show his true form in the USA.
He later became the US leading sire of 1939, and the sire of two Hall of Fame members in two-time Horse of the Year Challedon and champion handicap mare Gallorette. *Challenger II died in 1948.
