| Owner: 1) Jonathan Welch 2) Admiral Sir Charles Saunders Breeder: Governor of Wazan
His sire was an Arabian and his dam was described as "one of the most beloved mares in the Emperor's [of Morocco] Stud". He was purchased by Jonathan Welch in 1759 and sent to England where he stood for 7 years
Exported in 1766, he is believed to be the first authentic Oriental stallion imported to America, and stood in Pennsylvania from 1766 to 1768. He was subsequently purchased by Admiral Sir Charles Saunders in 1775
He had some influence as a stallion, particularly through Sally Painter (a daughter of his son [Evan's] Stirling and his daughter Sylva), from which a number of high class and classic winners descend in Family 6-a,
including top class racehorse Virginian (winner of a number of Jockey Club Purses in 1818 and 1819), Patron (1892 Belmont Stakes), Worth (1912 Kentucky Derby), Old Rosebud (1914 Kentucky Derby), Bold Venture (1936 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes), Count Fleet (1943 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes) and Bold 'n' Determined (1980 Coaching Club American Oaks, Kentucky Oaks)
