1 March 1828 - broke down after 600 yards of first of 3m heats handicap Charleston, set to concede 12lbs to Ariel despite year age difference, terminating his racing career in only his third race
His owner Richard Singleton stated that during the whole of his training with Ariel, a top class racemare, there was no time that he did not evince a decided superiority over her, and Crusader was probably an outstanding racehorse
