Foundation Mare Family 20
Dam of [Mr. Durham's] Favourite (by Royal Ball) - 1733 King's Plate [mares] Hambleton and through which the maternal line of the family continues
The family, which is still extant, has produced many high class horses, among the best being Henry of Navarre (1894 Belmont Stakes), Blue Peter (1939 2000 Guineas, Derby, Eclipse Stakes), Pharis II (1939 Prix du Jockey Club, Grand Prix de Paris), Tantieme (1950, 1951 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe), Alysheba (1987 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes), Miesque (1987 1000 Guineas, Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, Breeders' Cup Mile, 1988 Breeders' Cup Mare) and War Emblem (2002 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes)
mtDNA analysis shows that Eclipse Mare [1775] is not a descendant of Daffodil's Dam as she has a different haplotype, meaning around 10% of Family 20 does not, in fact, belong to the family
Officially registered as Sir T. Gascoigne's Foreign Horse Mare
