shortening the mane

Postby CampRiver » Sun Jun 22, 2008 6:48 am

My new stallion's mane is a little longer than I'd like it to be and would like to shorten it like the TBs. What is considered the normal length and how do I go about doing it??

call me old fashioned, but I prefer a pulled mane. About 2 inches is the length i aim for. Use a comb, tease back til you have about 6 hairs, and yank 'em out. If you've never done it, I think you want help the first time.

You can achieve the look of a pulled mane with a razor comb. 2" along with a bridle path the length of the horse's ear is normal for Western horses. English horses have a 1" bridle path and a mane pulled to 4". Also, English horses should have the mane trained to lay on the right side of the neck.

You know, if I pulled mane to 2" in length, I'd be calling it a Pawnee roach. I don't think you'll get it to lay over that short.
