Dreaming of Anna loses, how good is Dream Rush

Postby geowarrior » Sat Feb 10, 2007 3:13 pm

Anna lost today. Nice to see a daughter of Wild Rush do well - but how good are these fillies really?

Dreaming Of Anna broke on her knees and rushed up into a :44 4/5. That's excuse for any horse.

But...if her connections are thinking KY Derby, why was she in this race and NOT the 1 mile Davona Dale? That makes absolutely no sense to me.

Because this is February, the Derby is in May, and this is her first race back from a lay off.

Call me a hopeless pessimist, but I just hope they can keep her all in one piece UP TO the KY Derby. Seems like these Juvenile Filly supergirls always fall apart and are retired/on the sidelines by the first Saturday in May- why, I don't know. Halfbridled. Sweet Catomine. I don't even remember who won last year, but she didn't make it, either :(

Sometimes I think the added pressure/excitement of having "a top filly who can run in the Derby!" really works hell on the connections and the horse.

Well from what I've read, the trainer of Anna has been more cautious than her hopeful owner about Anna's derby prospects.

Halo, that's ridiculous. In the days when horses had 4 or 5 Derby preps, a sprint was just a "get some exercise" event. Now horses get only 2 or 3 preps for the Derby.....and one's a 6 1/2 furlong sprint? That's how modern horsement get a horse ready for 1 1/4 mile in early May...by using 2 or 3 preps, and one being a sprint?

Derby contenders don't run a mile or more off the layoff? I'm scratching my head to think who hasn't...Nobiz? Circular Quay today?

That's a good question, Geowarrior...I think that dummy meant to type "horsemen." LOL!!

Global Warming must be affecting how people type.

Yes global warming is also turning my brain to mush. Hey if the CHRB can use it as an excuse, I can.

Rags to Riches (off a maiden win) won a very slow Las Virgines today...it's not hard to second guess the gameplan of the Catalano barn.

seems Dream Rush is pretty damn good....and a co-worker's husband knows one of her owners via West Point.
So I'm happy.

Well, no matter who turns out to be the best, it seems that names with 'Dream' in them are hot stuff this year.

She has about as much chance of running in the Ky Derby as I do, NONE.

Shes a nice filly, she needed a race, but thats about it

I think she's better than a "nice" filly - she faced the boys on the grass and DESTROYED them. And, looking back at BC Day, I have no doubt that Dreaming Of Anna would have been 2nd to Street Sense...she ran better than any colt that Street Sense defeated that day. She's a Rahy, which means she has a license to get better this year and distance shouldn't be a problem (as opposed to A LOT of the others).

I just don't like that she was shortened up to a sprint. Even Appealing Zophie came off the layoff and ran a mile today.
