advice on bloodstock agent

Postby Jenny » Mon Feb 12, 2007 12:45 pm

Does anyone recommend a bloodstock agent they have used. I am looking to purchase 2 really good mares. I would like to find some that are graded stakes producers preferably bred in Kentucky. That have produced to all different stallions. Could be slightly older. We are trying to get some really good mares to our new stallion, who is standing in Ontario for his first year at stud. You might know him, GONE FISHIN. I really would like to buy privately instead of at auction. And I wasn't sure how much I would be able to spend, but by the responce that Gone fishin is getting in bookings, I should be able to spend about $30k in total. In your experiece is that enough money? and I want to find an agent I can trust. any advice would be apreciated.

My limited dealings with Pete Siegel, who occasionally posts on here as Pete, have been very satisfactory.

Ditto, Jenny. I was going to recommend Pete. You can send him a PM or e-mail by going to the message center and type his username PETE.

thank you everyone who replied with pm's. I can now in confidence get some balls rolling, now that breeding season is here. It is a very exciting time of year for us. Having purchased such a nice stallion. I really think he will bring up the class of horses bred in Ontario. Hopefully to the point of being able to compete in non restricted markets, such as open company at Woodbine and in the U.S :D

Might be a little light on 30 grand for Graded Stakes producers. Most sell for 100k and up. You might think about 1/2 sisters to stakes producers. They tend to produce and their offspring sell well.
