Best looking 32-year-old horse you will ever see

Not surprising, I guess, since he is Secretariat's last living brother. This is an incredible story - I can't believe it hasn't gotten more play.

Wow, thanks for the post! I also hope that this gets some attention, blows all the feedlot myths out of the water.

On the same note, there was a research request post on this board a few months ago about a horse named Carneval. Turns out he is half to Caro. Apparently the owner picked him up from a dealer in 1987 and had no idea.

The principal in this story, Stephanie Diaz, is a writer. Didn't Nick Zito slap a writer named Stephanie Diaz several years ago?

What a remarkable story. The horse looks fantastic, too! He could pass for half his age. I saw COUNT FLEET when he was 33 years old and believe me, he had nothing close to this horse's condition. And that was after a lifetime spent at Stoner Creek Stud.

Holy cow that horse looks terrific. I had no idea Straight Flush was still with us. I'm so glad he's safe. Just think, for a couple hundred bucks you could've bought Secretariat's half-brother. What a trooper.

I forgot to post that I met Stephanie Diaz at a horse show last year. She was riding Media Plan, and if anyone remembers he was a tough old gelding who ran in Northern California until he was about 12. He just about FLEW over the cross country course and he jumps like a stag. Very satisfying to see an old racehorse go on to a new career with success!

well god bless people like her. He does look great. But I was just confused about one thing in the story. The journalist said she got him out of a feedlot auction, but then said she got a email saying she had won? Was this like ebay feedlot? but who cares, the horse is happy and has a good home. It reminds me of the end of Black Beauty the move (which I cry everytime) when he is sitting under the tree, reflecting, and he's having memories of his friend galloping around the paddock.. OHh jeez I am going to cry!

I took it to mean Straight Flush's previous owner had posted him on an auction site for livestock because he felt bad he had taken him to the feedlot? There is a longer story somewhere that gives more detail and has a lot of pictures of Straight Flush and the cowboy who owns the ranch where he lives.
