Is there a reason that twins were not noticed previously in order for one to to be pinched...I ask because my mare had one of the twins pinched this year and two years ago

I'm afraid I don't understand your question, but I DO know that twinning is something carried by a mare. If she has twinned before, there is a good chance she will twin again, and nothing to do with the stallion, etc.

I didn't mention stallion only my mare..in a thread "Sad News" Karie said the mare at the farm had aborted twins..one huge and the other tiny..so my question was why one was not pinched early in the pregnancy..perhaps the vet didn't see the other twin..etc

Apparently the smaller twin was not diagnosed in the early ultrasound testing. But the outcome of her situation is the reason we do ultrasounds and attempt to "pinch" one twin early before it becomes a danger to the babies and the mother.

I still have the sonogram in my keepsake drawer of a big foal our vet told us.......later when our leased mare aborted twins, one big one small he looked at the sonogram again and said you cannot sometimes see the other twin??? She is pregnant again and carrying totally different, I still feel that somehow we should of realized she was in foal to twins....now I am very aprehensive of sonograming our mares, still sonogram but know in my heart its not 100%. Our mare is due in less than 30 days hopefully we will have a big healthy foal, but in reality she looks half the size she did when she had twins. good luck to you with your next foaling I still believe what is meant to be is meant to be. The next foal will be spectacular.

Sorry haven't been on this forum at all .. first off .. it wasn't my mare. (thank god)

So what I know is there were 2 foals aborted one tiny and one huge.
The big one was chestnut really flashy with a ton of white and the other tiny and not formed

She was ultrasounded in foal with a single foal... the vet obiviously missed it. It wasn't one that was supposed to be pinched.

I have one mare who gets pregnant with twins every year - so one is pinched naturally! She was so huge last year I was worried she had triplets and they only pinched one and there were still twins - nope - she's just a lard ass!

same with my mare ...she had a twin pinched this year again and she is huge and I had to reassure the foaling farm that she wasn't carrying twins..i asked if it was possible that she had been pregnant with triples and everyone said no and of course she is 345 days and counting

Why do some mares get sooooo large - like I said, I have one that is a total elephant and she isn't due until May. I have another mare - that I actually had the vet palpate again last year before I shipped her to KY to foal because she didn't look pregnant and I just knew she wasn't! She was and of course, she looks the same way again this year. Fed the same, etc....Genetics like people?

My mare carried small for the first 2 foals especially the first foal..she kept her racing shape for a long time into the pregnancy..since she was a sprinter they had problems catching her for her shots in the field or to bring her inside..had to trick her with food..as soon as she saw Dawn she would take off

This mare (Anna K. that had the gorgeous Birdstone colt in my avatar last year - ha) is the same way! She's the one that never looks preggers. She hates shots! She is the only mare that has to have the chain across her gums to give injections to and/or draw blood.....I hate doing it to her but as soon as she sees the vet come the head is held as high as it goes and she totally freaks. She is skittish about anything being done anywhere near her neck. She's fine after the shot is done ..... I have another one that sees you coming with a dewormer and she clamps her mouth tight Bunch of freaking wooses!
