Trailer accident on the Cross Bronx Expressway

Postby Toccet02 » Wed Feb 21, 2007 3:08 pm

According to my husband, a trailer carrying Tbreds to Belmont had its floor partially give way
and despite frantic signalling from passing motorists, kept going.
One horse was euthanized.
More details as I hear...apparently just happened and you know how innacurate early reports can be.
Just a heads up if anyone is possible affected here.
Hope not.

Just that the injured horse will be (not has been) put down.
Driver didn't "keep going"--just a nasty rumor I guess.
we had a cop dragged by a car at the same time so it ain't the top story here.

Yeah, and the driver's name was "Willie Wilson" or something similar.
The horse's leg was not in contact with the ground but with one of the wheels.

The horse who was put down is Please be Quick. Here is a story I found this morninghttp://www.nypost.com/seven/02222007/news/regionalnews/horse_dies_in_freak_bx__mishap_regionalnews_douglas_montero____and_tatiana_deligiannakis.htm
in another newpaper they said the van company "Ebert Vans" denied that a horse was even injured.

Does anyone know Ebert Vans? I am curious about the condition of their trailers, if a horses leg can "fall thru" the floor.

Yes, have heard of them and dealt with them- I work for a shipping company. Very nice people who know what they are doing and have a lot of horse experience. Their equipment has always been in good shape too. Had to have been a freak accident.

The ASPCA was said to be investigating the trailer.
I don't know how they knew this, but it was said the horse kicked through the bottom.

I can't believe it. I was doing a shipment up from Florida that very day and came across the cross Bronx at about 6 AM. I am always so paranoid and check and check and check everything. Plus my trailer is only a year old and has a lifetime warranty on the floor. My heart goes out to the owner and the driver, he must be devastated. That road is the worst, all those potholes and bumps could not have helped each time all that weight bounces up and down.

Oh yeah. For those of you not from the Bronx . . . or New York,
Cross Bronx is a Hell-Hole.
Consistenty rated the worst road in the city every year.
We never take it if we can avoid it.
Crowded, bumpy, smelly, claustrophobic . . .they built apartment buildings right on top of it in places.
