Well Decorated mare

Postby charm » Sat Feb 24, 2007 11:41 pm

Hi,

I am thinking about breeding my Well Decorated mare "Layed Back" again.
I didn't have much luck with her but that is a long story...stallions that are nearby are Storm Victory, Finality and Mass Market. I am inclined to breed her to Mass Market but would like to know what you think...
Thanks

There is a stallion in BC named Amaruk at whom you might look. He has had very limited opportunities (12 named foals) and from those opportunities has quite good results--one multiple stakes winner, one stakes placed, and on average they're winning at a 25% clip (out of 10 foals to race). The interesting bit for your mare is that his best two foals both add another cross of Nasrullah within 5 generations. If he is following in his dad's footsteps at stud, he is siring tough, sound, honest runners who do their jobs and pay their bills, and who are better as 3yo and up than as juveniles. He stands at Road's End farm in Abbottville, BC. for $1200CAN.

With respect to Amaruk and Mass Market, pedigree-wise I don't see anything that shouts "breed her to THIS horse" one way or the other. I do see that Amaruk foals have a consistently higher average earnings (even without Five Point Star) than Mass Market for half the stud fee.

from looking at well decorated as a bms, Bright Valour was going to be my first choice, but Well Decorated is his BMS. My second choice would be Testimonial.

A sleeper may be TERRELL. An exceptionally fast and attractive horse who ran in SoCal. He's by Distorted Humor from a Fit to Fight mare. Ask for a good deal.

Well Decorated

Postby GreenThumb » Mon Feb 26, 2007 3:55 pm

Hi,

Take a look at comeonmom.
You inbreed to to albania in the 6th through comeonmom's dam and well decorated's dam. hatchet man likes bloodroot, this is seen in woodchopper and showtime deb. You sex balance tom fool in the 5th. Your 2 lines of Nasrullah gives breeding to lady josephine through all comeonmom's mahmoud blood.

One thing I noticed is inbreeding to albania's family, an example of this is house buster who gets his from mt livermore and johns joy on his dam side. speedy stuff. Mt livermore has another runner at the top of his earnings inbred to johns joy like housebuster

www.readingfarm.com is where he is at sired a pretty good runner as well from small crops

Isn't Comeonmom in NY? Wouldn't that be an expensive ship from B.C.?

Hi,

My focus was the pedigree, sorry about that.
Maybe you can talk to them about a deal if you make the trip, mares seems a good fit.

This one reminds me of that so familiar commercial...

Stud fee, $3,000

Cross country shipping, mare care and vet bills $6,000

Foaling out in BC from a New York nominated stallion, worthless.

(sorry for the sarcasm, couldn't resist)

Pedigree-wise, Storm Victory brings in a lot of the elements that produced Fabulous Notion and Cacoethes, and the mare herself is by Well Decorated.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

So I went through your mares female family and came up with Subordination who is bred on the same type of lines that your mare would create with comenonmom. Thought that was pretty interesting

Thank you all so much, well NY is a bit out of way but it gives me something more to research.
for some reason I like Never Bend. While ago somebody mentioned to me a horse that would fit with her because of Never Bend but I am no expert and of course forgot all that except his name.....any insights on that one?
I like Subordination.

thanks

Hi,

I am by no means an expert, just been sitting behind the machine hear learning with the intent of getting in.

If you look at Alydar, Danzig, The Axe, Tudor Minstrel you will see the relationship there. If you research Danzig you will find information about how he hits on Tudor Minstrel. If you look at Danzig you will see he hits on Alydar. If you look at Alydar he hits on Mr P, some sons of Northern Dancer like Danzig and Nijinsky and example of this is Alydeed. Looking at Alydar he hit on Buckpasser with Easy Goer. He hit on Hatchet Man with Strike the Gold, and hit on No Robbery with Criminal Type and Train Robbery (Train Robber dam of Cat Thief, whose best runner to date is out of a daughter of Polish Navy..Danzig). Alydar hit on Riverman with Adorydar and Talinum. Then you have the Courtley Dee daughters.

If you look at Benchmark you get Brother Derek who has Relaunch in the Dam. The horse A to the Z is buy a daughter or Replant who happens to be son of No Robbery. Then comes several daughters of Bertrando which means more Relaunch which means The Axe.

If you look at The Axe he historically has shown an affinity for Hail to Reason (Lively One as an example) and Seattle Slew (Digression) there are other ones to support this just taking the easy way on this one. If you look at Hail to Reason and Round Table in the 3rd you get Seattle Slew and Silver Charm,

If you look at Alydar again you will see a winner out of Cabrini Green mare. He is Round Table over Tudor Minstrel.

In all this there is a realtionship (to me anyway) that shows a lot of Mahmoud.

Also Looking at Alydar he seems to like No Robbery and Never Bend which shows some indication to an affinity with Bloodroot.

Now for Tom Fool....Alydar likes Tom as seen in Strike the Gold and and Easy Goer. Seems to me Bulldog is probably making this go. If you look at Alydar you will see some winners that carry Johns Joy who is Bulldog over Well Decorated's female family. If you look at Strike the Gold he just had a millionaire in Turkey called Sabirli. He by Shareef Dancer who is Northern Dancer (inbreeding to Native Dancer in Alydar) out of a Sir Ivor over Tom Fool daughter. More mahmoud with Sir Ivor and the Tom Fool Ivor cross.

We already talked about Hatchet Man and No Robbery so more Bloodroot.

So tying this together Comeonmom gives you Mahmoud for your Tudor Minstrel. You are inbreeding to Comeonmom's female family which we discussed earlier. Damascus always works and can be seen throught the pedigrees of Stallions mentioned and then your Never Bend brings in Bloodroot's family. Now you sex balance Tom Fool Through Jester and your female family speaks for itself.

Benchmark would be nice as well

Hope I did not bore you just had to get that out.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi,

Forgot to mention Alydeed who is in your neck of the woods. Standing at like $3500 and won almost a million and was second in the Preakness

Hi Chris,

thank you so much for all the info. It is not boring at all it just shows me how much I know....

I just hope to make a decision before the breeding season is over. Good thing is we are up north here and nobody really breeds early, she is open
so I am thinking April.

Thanks
Jana
