I would like to get some opinions on my filly's first race. You can watch the replay at:

She is in the 5th race on the 24th. Some background, besides the obvious muddy track, she was in heat, had a 102 temp. and cut her from on the trailer ride from Dallas to Vinton. We waited until the last minute to decide wether or not to scratch. She's mine, so I think it was impressive as a first time starter, but her Beyers is low and her Rag # is low. That is the part that I don't understand, because I am a breeder, not a handicapper. Any thoughts/comments will be appreciated.

Considering she blew the field away I can only say you might want to try racing her again sometime.

She had a nice move once they came around the turn and it looked like she changed leads about 5 seconds before the wire. Not bad for a first out.

The late charge looked like something you'd see in a grass race. Any thoughts of the lawn for her?

Was her positioning after the start intentional, or did she just kind of end up there and then blow the field away? Because with a move like that and she's already learned to rate then I'm really impressed.

Is she a registered Texas-bred?

Thanks for the comments. We told Sydney that no horse had won on the lead and to take her back without a fight, if she would allow it. We had considered her first start on the turf at the Fairgrounds, but she wasn't quite ready by the 18th, so we had to have them FedEx her papers to Delta for the 24th. We have received 4 offers via telephone and I am seriously considering them, but it is too fun to race. She will be running around mid-March and probably in La. again.

I'm assuming this is Sueno by Open Forum and that she's a three year old. I wouldn't worry too much about low speed figures in a first race. She went as fast as was needed to beat the field. Many of the young horses I've seen start at low speed figures, especially at two, and build up to higher figures, and I personally think that's the best way to bring them on. It seems she got the perfect experience there at DED, and unless it's big bucks that are being offered and you need them I'd hang on to her. With a good trainer I think you could have lots of fun.

Thanks. She went nearly five lengths faster and still hasn't been asked. I am going to stretch her out to six furlongs, since she is able to be rated going five. If she can handle it, it will open up a lot more opportunities, and there's always the turf sprints.

If she's a TX-bred, the upcoming meet at Lone Star has quite a few statebred races for fillies and mares that might suit her.
