Name Shame, part deux: Gender confusion

Postby Heidilady » Sat Mar 24, 2007 10:48 pm

Ok we have a name shame thread for rather questionable name choices in general. You know, the attempts to be clever and crude at the same time. Some are just lousy. Here's another one, a subset really. I started with one that's been mentioned a couple times on tv lately and I'd like to know if there are other names that really belong to a different gender or at least sound like they should. I'm sure there have been.

The gender confused nominees I'd like to offer up are:

Dubious Miss and Labamta Babe...both colts and boy do they sound girly. Anybody else got one they'd like to have "reassigned" to a more sexually appropriate equine?

Honorable mention: Smarty Jones. Doesn't sound girly but he was named for a woman's nickname.

I believe Chief Officer is a filly, but somehow I'm always confused even though we can have female chiefs and female officers.

Oh well, lots of people think Geowarrior ought to be a guy.

Jaklin Klugman - strange name for a colt, huh?

As I recall, they thought Jacklin Klugman was a filly when they named her. Or him. That's what they said at the time, any way.

Linda's Chief. It's always felt funny to me when a colt has a possessive case name where a female is the possessor.

I think Hall Lass a gelding, and Howbigaboyareya a mare qualify for this category. There is a gelding by the name of Transvestite running in England so he belongs too

How about Delightful Kiss, the gelding who ran third in the Tampa Bay Derby last weekend? Maybe it's just me, but I just would not be able to associate that name with anything other than a filly.

Cannon Boy, a mare by Canonero II.

Incidentally "miss" can also mean "swing and a miss" kind of miss, but "boy" is kind of definitive.

I always thought that "Kitten's Joy" was a little feminine sounding for a male.

I think both Ruffian and Moscow Burning come across as rather masculine names.

That's what had been relayed to me when I was hanging around Mira Loma as a kid.
