Hard Spun--stallion prospect
It's exciting that Danzig would finally leave a worthy heir in Hard Spun. That horse showed genuine speed, class and courage against a very fast field.
His 2nd dam is a half sister to Preakness/Belmont winner LITTLE CURRENT, and the next dam is a half to Derby/Preakness winner CHATEAUGAY. What's she worth today?
Hopefully this Danzig colt stays in America. I'd hate to see Coolmore buy and stand him in Ireland.

I think Danehill already is Danzig's heir.
Michael....I'm always tooting Danzig's horn - look who beat me to it this time! LOL!!!

His pedigree certainly says he will improve with age, and on turf. I sure hope he will fill the Danzig void in America that LURE promised but never delivered. The Breeders' Cup Mile looks like it would be right up his alley.
I don't know that much about his trainer, Larry Jones, but apparently that :57 3/5 work this week didn't cook him like most people figured.

I don't know much about Larry Jones either, but I've had a lot of respect for the various comments/statements I've heard him make through the Derby preparations. Remember that he was thinking about passing up the Derby because he wasn't sure if the horse would like the surface. I don't know if it's because he rides exercise but he seems very attuned to the horse and seems to really care about Hard Spun.

Danzig
It was great to see Hard Spun set all the early fractions and still be a clear 2nd to the rest of the field. It would be nice to see Danzig leave a top sire prospect, an area he has been somewhat fragile. Langfuhr at 25K & War Chant at 30K (down from 80K) appear to be his top commercial sons. Though Anabaa new to KY stands at 40K (why?) and Exchange Rate FL at 10K, who (E.R.) seems by far the best value.
As a side not (not to hijack the Danzig talk) it was gratifying to see Street Cry establish himself early on as an early impact (2nd crop) stallion. I love Mr. P and to see the precocious Machiavellian's influence in N.A. along with the influence of Troy. Of course Street Cry is an "F" nick (if you buy into the computerized nicks).

Well, he has something else going for him (Hard Spun that is). Not only can he now be considered a bonafide graded stakes horse but he is a very good looking horse. He and my partnership horse Citi Smoke both ran in the Lecomte Stakes, both are May foals. Although there's nothing wrong with Smokie at all, next to him Hard Spun looked magnificent. If he puts his stamp on his foals I bet they will be commercial.
So what's in the cards now for Nobiz?

re: Street Cry. I only wish America had greater access to the Machiavellian branch of Mr. Prospector. He always seemed misplaced in Europe, even though he was a champion miler there. His female family is vintage American (Natalma), and Mr. P has never been as well accepted overseas as it has here. Even with a strictly turf female side, Street Cry is clearly an excellent dirt sire, which makes me conclude that more of the Machiavellian clan would be welcome additions here.
Machiavellian over Danzig---what a beautiful cross.

I believe a breeding stallions dam is more important to his sucess than his sire and that Hard Spun's dam does not measure up to that respomsibility..
having said that I also believe that ever colt in the field will be used as a breeding stallion somewhere.
