you don't interview a rider in a million dollar grade 1 while he is warming his horse up in the post parade.
we don't care what an actor thinks about the race either
ABC's coverage is pathetic
Moderators: Roguelet, hpkingjr, WaveMaster
They had a lot of technical issues today. Numerous problems today. At the end of the race, Recce Davis was interviewing Steve A(trainer of curlin). You could not hear the interview because it sounded like someone was talking over Steve and Recce Davis. That was very bad. I wont even mention the numerous issues with Jeannie Edwards and her mic...
Yes, the audio sucked today. I can see a technical flub here and there, but it seemed like the audio guys were asleep at the wheel. And the overlap between two interviews...made ESPN/ABC look like a high school AV Club.
One thing I did like was the piece on Cajun jockeys...beer cans and chickens "riding" horses...gotta love it!

I, for one, missed seeing the Beulah Twins today. Their absence on days like this is a tragedy.

They spend a day long covering the race - and do a terrible job of it in my opinion. Hubby and I were talking and we thought it would be very interesting if they really were interested in getting more people involved in the sport, if they talked more about the:
1) horse's pedigrees and what their dams and sires had accomplished, and listed their pedigrees as they came to the post for those just watching THE race and not all the other stuff leading up to the race.
2) interviewed the breeders of those horses to determine what their thoughts were when they made the decisions to breed those particular horses.
More info like that. For god's sake it has to be more entertaining and informative than the other crap they use for fillers.
Interviewing the second place winner before the first place winner was a complete faux paux especially since you could hear the first place winner being interviewed over the second place winner.
Too bad they don't have radio coverage so you could turn off the t.v. people and watch it and listen to it on t.v. like we used to do when we watched football games.

thank god for HRTV. i watch ESPN, ABC and NBC as little as possible. I will even take TVG over them.. and I'm not a TVG fan except on Friday nights
On HRTV they are asking real questions.. how is the pace going to break down, who can get the distance, etc... on ABC they are asking Rebecca Roman-Stamos's BF what are his opinions... who gives a crap!!!! You think just because he is famous I care what he thinks?
All must bow down to the coverage they have over in Dubai however. unreal. The camera angles, the track announcer.... the broadcasters even know how to handicap! however I really just like the accents of the people. they really could learn a think or two about the camera angles...starting to get better

As a former sports writer & current horse race enthusiast, I found the audio portion shockingly bad.
And while I'm never shy about sharing an opinion, I almost never actually contact a network to tell them their coverage was bad, as I think they can figure it out for themselves.
But by the time I was straining to hear the interview between the male interviewer & Asmussen about Curlin's race, while hearing a voiceover from a female interviewer and some connection of Rags to Riches, I'd had enough.
Not that I think ABC will care.

He caught his mistake and nervously said that oh he wasn't even in the Belmont.
