How much will Invasor's stud fee be?
I'm thinking maybe 60-75k.
Really? I was thinking more 30-50k tops. He's a HOY but has a very unfashionable and un-American pedigree on the bottom side. I think most breeders are weary of South American pedigrees in stallions since so many don't pan out.
Take Candy Ride (who I think was a more talented animal, but we'll never know)... obviously no where near as accomplished as Invasor but put in a jaw dropping performance at 10f and he started off at 10k.
Dont forget either he wont be breeding until next season and a lot of the smell will be off the bloom by then. Out of sight, out of mind. If they start him too high, he wont get much support.

i just went back and looked at candy ride....damn. I think you might be right maven... won the Paciffic classic against a game D'oro IN HAND by at least 5... don't know the beyer off the top of my head but 1:59 and change.... 100 teens? low 20s?
anyway.. Invasor. If I were breeding to Invasor 9which I am not).. I would be willing to step up to 40-50k.. but that's about it UNLESS I had an ARG bred.. no where near triple digits

With Eclipse (Turf Male) winner Leroidesanemaux at 25K, I would guess HOY Invasor would get 50-75K, based on pedigree & race record only. I agree with Maven regarding the unfamiliarity and also the lack of success of S.A. pedigrees translating into racing success via sires in N.A.
I guess I should mention Gentleman, Puerto Madero, Malek, Siphon, Paranoide, Gold Spring, et al.

But dont forget two important things about Leroidesanimaux, who happens to be one of my favorite stallions and a horse I will breed to next year. He retired at the end of the racing year, and he comes from one of the best and most successful European families of recent history, a family that's had major success in both Europe and in the States.
Invasor doesn't have half the family or family familiarity to breeders that Leroi does.

Out of curiousity, what were your impressions of Candy Ride? His beyer was 123, the fastest for the year. In the Pacific, he also broke the 75 year old track record.

Candy Ride was more talented? And he beat....???
Didn't Invasor beat, "The best three year old since Secretariat" Bernardini.....the "wonderhorse?" Of course, people that called Bernardini a "wonderhorse" now deny ever saying it.
Invasor would have beaten Candy Ride just as easily as he beat Bernardini. There's nothing to suggest that Candy Ride belonged on the same track with Invasor.

He's a good looking horse with questionable feet. I do think he was a GREAT bargain for breeders. When he was retired at that price, I was shocked. My pedigree adviser thinks he has great pedigree structure to be a very good stallion.
Talent wise, I think he was one of the best in quite some time, if not THE best. He just made everything look effortless. He put away Medaglia like he was a cheap claimer, and that horse was a VERY good horse.

You're using Medaglia D'oro to judge Candy Ride's ability? Volponi beat Medaglia D'oro just as easily in the BC Classic. Volponi was no superhorse, Maven, and Volponi didn't dust Medaglia D'oro on a super speed favoring surface as did Candy Ride.
Candy Ride is really closed in front - look at his walking video:

but leroi isn't half the horse invasor is, so it kinda evens out

honestly....I might be wrong, but isn't that the year pleasanty perfect took the BC Classic?
let me put it this way.. .I watched his 3 races in CAL.. a 100k oc claiming, the American something and the Pacific Classic.. i wouldn't be betting AGAINST him
shoot.. is HE standing at stud anywhere? I can see the similarities to invasor, however he lays a tad bit closer to the lead and has a faster turn of foot, where is invasor seems to be a horse that has to get cranked up when going against Legit G1 caliber horses.. neither is bad, just different. Candy Ride is more "push button".. and when I say he won the classic in hand... 2-3 taps coming into the stretch and blew past the competition when asked... I mean you can tell he was racing don't get me wrong but that wasn't the best he could do, you can tell that as well
Why McAnally doesn't get more horses is beyond me.
what's even more funny is how close he came to having invasor.. was literary a phone call away

Rule 1 in handicapping Rok... never use what a horse can't contol against him.
he doesn't get to pick his competition so the only thing you can do is judge is HOW he did it.
When you can run a 123 and not use the whip down the stretch and still be opening up at the wire...yeah i can

Then how can you acount for his breath-taking performances? He ran a mile in 1.31 on turf and set a new track record in the Pacific in 1.59 flat, on dirt, earning a 123 beyer, the highest for 2003.
He is a bit base narrow, but that obviously did not affect his stride. I think he is a steal at $12,500.
