Rockport Harbor and Buddha

Postby Toccet02 » Thu Jun 28, 2007 9:39 am

Can someone refresh my memory as to why these two were retired?
Thanks

I want to say Rockport Harbor had something akin to arthritis in the ankles and Buddha fractured a couple sesemoids after the Wood Memorial. Not certain though. I also hear Buddha is windswept as hell which is why you'll never see a head on shot of him.

Didn't Rh's gaping hoof wound have something to do with it? Never healed right? And he did that in a race . . .clipped heels or split himself open all by himself?

Rockport harbor sucked, which was why he was retired. He ran like he had weights on his feet.

Can't speak for Buddha

Why not add Songandaprayer? The Unbridled's Song Orthopedic Clinic is open for business.

OK . . .details, details please. 8)
I can say "My co-worker sucks!"
or I could say: "She chews gum and eats like a cow, she's incredibly helpless and ignorant, she's haughty and never does grunt work like we all do here, and she's a tunnel-vision religious fanatic."
It's the latter approach I'm looking for.
(And I got a free rant out of it; thank you!)

rockport harbor was one of the best 2YO's and VERY early 3YO's in the country. same connections as Smarty if I'm not mistaken. He was shipped from phily down to my neck of the woods to oaklawn. I was excited to see him. The next "Star"

I went to see him, it was the year Afleet Alex was here, even the race he did good in it wasn't that impressive. he has a "hevy" stride if that makes any sense, hence why I said he runs like he has weights on his feet.

Yes, I always noticed that about him too, which is why I was wondering if he split his own foot open. He came down hard. Some horses, on the other hand, appear to soar horizontally and barely make contact with the ground.

pardon my ignorance, but what does the term windswept mean?

I believe it means front legs bowing way outward

Windswept means that both legs are crooked, but in the same direction. So the right front and the left front both deviate, when viewed from the front, toward the left or the right. Hence the term, windswept. Think of trees bent by the wind.

I'm trying to recall the last time I heard anyone refer to forelegs as being windswept.

Best to you.

Do "eggshell" feet enter into the equation, as well?

Rockport Harbor had the weirdest deep hole type of wound. I remember it being on a quarter, but I can't say for sure. It wouldn't heal. I thought it was a load when they announced it would be the cause of his retirement, until I saw a photo of it. Very yuck.
