Stallion opinions please.

Postby Ryeno » Tue Dec 14, 2004 9:19 am

My friend has asked me for some advice on his mare after I told him how great you guys were on giving me advice on my mare. Her pedigree data base name is:
Ginger Tea by Demons Begone out of Tea Boat by Sauce Boat

She has been bred to a local stallion named Digital Dan and has a beautiful weanling on the ground and is in foal to him again. He is looking to improve his breeding program seeing that our home track will have slot machines in 2005.Any advice would be great and I appreciate everyone's opinion!
A little info that I found was that Demons Begone is the broodmare sire of Lucifer's Stone(by Horse Chesnut) and Lucifer's Stone is a Grade 1 winner.Only problem with that is he stands for 10,000 US and is located in Kentucky (which is only a minor problem).
Anybody have any ideas :?:

I look forward to your responses?
Sincerly Ryeno :)

In the Pacific Northwest, I like Dixieland Brass very much with this mare on paper -- 3x4 Gallant Romeo through a stakes winning son and daughter and some solid line breeding further back. However, this mare is the unraced daughter of an unraced dam and Dixieland Brass had only a short (8 starts) career himself, so I would be cautious about proceeding with this mating unless the physical matchup is excellent and the stallion and mare do not double up on each other's faults.

Regal Intention is also a possibility -- a consistent, proven regional sire with a good race record showing both durability and class. Crossing Northern Dancer and Halo has had very good results. This would be a somewhat more distance-oriented mating than the other.

Depending on the budget and the willingness to go afield, Siberian Summer might be worth a look. This horse is a G1 winner, made 30 starts, moves his mares up, and is (I think) a terrific bargain at a listed $6000. The mating is interesting in that is doubles the family of Bold Irish, the t/f ancestress of Icecapade and Demons Begone. If your friend seriously considers this route, I would suggest sending Michael (he owns SS) a private message; he is a very astute home breeder and would have a better idea than I, I think, how the mare's HTR inbreeding might fit with SS.

I would not breed back to the same stallion 2 yrs in a row. Now you are going to have a full brother or full sister to your weaning colt. They dont sell well and they dont really show nothing on the track(talking about the full brother or sister). Just my opinion..

Have you considered Yoonevano or Amaruk for this mare? I don't know much about the numbers etc, but both stallions I quite liked when I saw them. What about Vying Victor or Flying With Eagles, Free At Last? Or have you already crossed them off the list? I am looking to breed my mare to Regal Intention in the spring.
