And if she was just getting ready to put on some speed after two laps, then she was getting ready for the burst at the end of the mile to finish, just like she was trained to do. What a good little mare.
Well, not little. 17 hands, actually. She'd do that drop into a stretched out floating power thing just at the end to pull in front of my girlfriend's OTTB at the end.
We were nuts. We were kids. I can't believe we didn't kill oursleves, or our horses. But they loved it. And I have to say, we did condition them for it. I wouldn't go there with, ask that of, a retired horse like that today.
