Thanks so much!! Candy Spots was my favorite racehorse as a kid (until Native Diver replaced him)--when he lost the 63 Derby to Chateaugay (who was sired by Swaps, previously owned by Ellsworth, who owned Candy Spots!), I cried for days. He had white splotches all over his body, including belly, legs and neck. A fun horse to watch.
Notice his length in the starting gate. Although his head is basically flush with the other two horses, his tail is much further back in the gate. That reflects his conformation--people used to say he was built in two sections. A very long and tall (17.1 hands) horse.
According to the caption below Native Dancer's picture he was 14 years old. That would make the year 1964. According to the 1964 TB Record stallion register, the bay horse GLOBEMASTER also stood at Sagamore Farm. I'd bet that's the other horse to which you refer.
