that the racetracks do not offer purse money for fast workouts:
"Creating the greatest stir on Sunday's work tab was the sizzling 7-furlong workout by trainer Bob Baffert's Midnight Lute in 1:22 flat. The time is the fastest registered for the distance this season, the earlier best being 1:23.53 run by Big Bad Leroybrown in Friday's Real Good Deal Stakes."

Did Baffert want a 1:21 out of Midnight Lute and was disappointed?

He's done what he does for years. They always work fast. If they don't let that be a HUGE sign!!!! Of course it takes a ton out of them, that's a no brainer, plus undue wear and tear. I hate fast works unless the horse is doing it on it's own, dragging the rider there.
I don't know what would be easier, re programming the horses or the people. And the riders on their backs are more often than not doing what the voice in their ear piece tells them to. That's their job. don't think, just do.

No one's arguing with that, but he is a QH trainer and he likes flashy looking works.... AND if this track is the saviour then who cares how fast he works he'll likely have 10 starts between now and the end of the year, and work regularly and rapidly in between and be VERY sound....
How about a round of high suspensories for everyone.... on a totally unrelated topic...

I am pretty sure Midnight Lute only had 2 starts this year.. I might be wrong but I'm not off by much. I remember 2 of them.. an done was on poly at keeneland in a stakes which I had money on him and he lost
I doubt he gets 10 starts in 5 months.. he's too high quality a horse to put though like that. however i would like to see him in the pacific classic.... I think Tiago takes that

Oh no... but now he's training on it
that will be the difference... again it is imperative that I roll my eyes.....
And I like Tiago there too. I don't love the hind end issues and the now abcess that the Lava is battling. We all know horsemen aren't always completely forth coming with the media, and as I see him train daily I must say if there's ever a time... now might be it....
