New mare for Lazy F

Postby lazyfranch » Tue Sep 04, 2007 6:47 am

A friend of mine picked up this mare several years ago after she bowed at the track. She always had the intentions of breeding her for a dressage horse, but never got to it. She is now building a house, barn and having babies, so this mare is now mine. I have always loved her, and plan on breeding her to my Welsh stallion, but just wanted some input on her pedigree to make sure she didn't have any reasons to breed her for a runner.

First thing I noticed is how Northern Dancer-free her pedigree is. Interesting inbreeding on the sireside. She's a pretty mare. :D

Pretty mare but nothing to suggest she'll get runners.
Don't be so humble - you are not that great.

Yes pretty mare. Do not like her straight shoulder and weak pedigree

She has lost some flexion due to her bow, she hasn't been ridden since she came off the track, so that's just her dinkin' around in the pasture.

This is my stallion, he's right at 12h, his oldest babies are just turning 3 and starting to be put under saddle.

Your Welsh stallion is very handsome! Love the chrome!

Man, though, with her movement... she'd be a amazing match-up with a Dutch WB dressage stallion, too...

Maybe I'm missing something but the mare doesn't have an extended reach like the sire does. She has a very straight shoulder and it shows in her movement. Her front feet do not even match with her nose.

The sire on the other hand has a very nice reach, meaning he has a nice shoulder. You can see his front feet go past his nose.

Good race-horses tend to have very nice shoulders, which shows in their reach meaning they can cover more ground.
