hi Rok
Even Coolmore, the masters of spin, can't spin this horse.
Should Dr Demi O's credibility be debited to the tune of $16mil...after all, when was the last time a veterinarian cost his owner $16mil, and on one BAD decision/recommendation no less?
Respectfully

If you are a billionaire, $16m is a drop in the ocean. It's like someone worth $1m who blows $16,000 on a claimer.

hi Worksoplad
Fair enough...$16mil to a billionaire is arguably not much more than a blip on the radar.
That said...seems to me that you might have oversimplified the matter by basically writing it off as nothing more than a potential $16 mil+- loss for a billionaire group/organization.
A point that I was attempting to make (tongue in cheek
), is that the world of thoroughbred racing and breeding is not only about money, but also (and sometimes to a large degree) about egos, perception and credibility (among other things).
Best.

I hope TGM learns from his first race and goes on to become one of the greatest TB's in modern times. I hope he wins the Triple Crown and becomes the biggest money winner of all times. I hope he becomes a great sire and sire of sires. I hope he makes his purchase price seem like chump change. You see.....a rising tide floats all the boats!!!!!! Look what its done to the Keeneland sale. The price of horseflesh has gone up.
Everyone wants to ridicule the owners that paid the price for what they wanted and then, ridicule the horse for not winning his first out. I say thank God I am in a game where to some people money is no object
. Because one day I might have a horse that is worth half that $16M. This sale and this horse is one of the best things that has happened to this industry in the last 20 years. We can't breed a Triple Crown winner but we can breed one worth $16M. That's Fantastic!!!!!!! So, I say, THE GREEN MONKEY, HORSE OF THE DECADE.

to someone who is WORTH 1 million, 16k is not chump change. Being worth 1 million and actually having 1 million in the bank are two totally different things. People don't seem to understand that.
with that said.. Demi's made made the man alot of money.. he's allowed to have some F up's even if they cost `16 mil.
the reason it's a drop in the bucket is because it's apart of his operating costs, not his personal wealth

No one is ridiculing the hrose.. he's just not that good. I can't wait to see this 11.7 million kingmambo colt hit the ground.
that's why it's in everyones best interest to bring pepole to the game. the more people are in the game, the more betting handles go up, the more purses go up, the more stallions are wroth, the more potential stalliosn are worth

When Coolmore spends magabucks on foals by their own stallions, are those horses OK'ed by O'Byrne, or is it just a mission to maintain sales averages? I can name many, many high priced Coolmore bombs that were offsprings of their own stallions - did O'Byrne select those horses, or did Coolmore basically think, "Well, the ends justify the means - we'll buy a high ticket bomb to support the sale average?"
Case in point: Demi O'Byrne signed the ticket at Saratoga in 2006 for the Tale Of the Cat crop topper - a colt out of Good Vibes for $625,000. Where is it?
Another: Demi O'Byrne signed the ticket at Keeneland in 2006 for the only Fu-Peg that sold for $1 Million - a colt out of Squawk. Any sightings of it?
Another: Demi O'Byrne signed the ticket at Keeneland in 2006 for the J-Berg crop topper - a colt out of Bullville Belle for $750,000. Is it alive?
You forgot about these purchases? How could you...they're in the hands of the greatest trainer that ever lived.

It is hardly unusual for yearlings bought at Keeneland not to run until the end of their two year old season or even until they are 3yos. In fact I would guess that the greater majority of sales yearlings don't make it to the races at 2, regardless of the trainer.
Every horse is different and to quote Eddie D., to whom I recently complained that my four 2yos are only going to be making their debuts in late October/early November if I am lucky, even though they have been at Hollywood Park and Santa Anita since March 1st after four month's prep at an off track facility: "The horse tells you when they are ready to run."

I guess Pletcher clients have the wrong idea about Keeneland purchases, huh?

In THAT Barn? If they don't run at two, don't expect them to run at three - if TGM was just another purchase, would he still be in training in that barn? How many top Pletcher horses can you name that didn't race at two? A couple, maybe?

Oops, Sorry. Pressed the wrong key!
Anyway, I was going to ask: How do you lknow what Pletcher's owners were thinking? I would think that they did not want to run the horse at all costs at the expense of their own horse's well being.
