Any Word on Azeri?

Postby Heidilady » Mon Feb 12, 2007 7:31 pm

I'd love to know when she's due with her first little one. Also what the next breeding is planned--I hope the first go around was just a fluke and that she doesn't have troubles. Remind me who got the 2nd attempt--AP Indy? Barren to Storm Cat the first time so I wonder if they'll try again.

She has had her baby! A colt!

Horse of the Year Azeri delivered her first foal, an A.P. Indy chestnut colt, Feb. 14. A 9-year-old daughter of Jade Hunter, Azeri and her newborn are owned by the Allen E. Paulson Living Trust, which is managed by Paulson's son, Michael Paulson.

Azeri, who came up barren to the cover of Storm Cat in 2005 during her first year as a broodmare, was bred by Allen Paulson, who unfortunately never got to see her race. He died in 2000 when Azeri was a 2-year-old.

Azeri was voted 2002 Horse of the Year and champion older female after winning the Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) in the midst of an 11-race win streak. She was the first female Horse of the Year since Lady's Secret in 1986. Azeri also was named champion older female in 2003-04.

Azeri, who is boarded at John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farms near Lexington, is booked to Storm Cat.

:D Great news! I wish they'd publish pictures of these new little ones, as people would love seeing them!

This is so great :) Proud mama bear. When are the first televised preps? We might get to see it on Foal Patrol. I hope they use some imagination with the name. I'd like foals by her not to have AP or Cat on them. She's too unique to have the equine equivalent of "jr" put on the horse.

How about AP's Bear . . . . . AP in this case stands for Allen Paulson.

I kind of like that AP Upgrade name!

She was bred to Giant's Causeway. Someone else will have to tell you how she's doing though.
