hottest young sire on earth??

Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s breeding operation, Shadwell Stud, has announced that it has closed the book for highly promising young stallion for 2008 coverings.

The farm has been overwhelmed with applications following the encouraging start that Nayef has made to his career with 10 individual first-crop winners, including the impressive winner of Doncaster's May Hill Stakes (Gr2) winner, .

Shadwell has adopted for 2008 a policy worldwide of restricting its stallions to just 85 mares. This has made the task of allocating nominations particularly difficult in the case of Nayef, as prospective breeders made some 300 applications.

Meanwhile, Shadwell has also announced a closing date of 30 November for 2008 nominations to for the 2008 season. Haafhd is also heavily ooversubscribed and breeders are being urged to reconfirm their interest by submitting an application form by this date.

My gosh. world class pedigree of a family that include's this year's BC filly and mare turf winner.

another thing... I think Gulch might very well be one of the most underrated sires on earth. dirt, grass, long short, cheap... all the requirements. he sires SIRES. decent ones.

Gulch was a tremendous horse - I loved him so much. He ran his heart out every time, even in races where he was distance-challenged.

I had been so excited about Mineshaft this year that I had forgotten about Nayef, but he was a very, very good horse and he's gotten off to a terrific start. I'm absolutely thrilled.......and I hope his offspring mature at 3 and older like their sire.

I wonder how many applications for Street Cry were turned down.

Street Cry is at Darley, not Shadwell. I don't think the 85-mare limit extends to Darley horses. At $100K a pop, only Darley can assess his popularity (and know the number of applications). I think Street Cry is shaking out as a breed to race stallion.

Who wrote that he was at Shadwell? Anyway, why would you label him as breed-to-race with Street Sense, Tomcito, Catch Me And Cry, Summer Doldrums....is it because his offspring won't win any beauty pageants?

The thread was talking about Shadwell.

Street Cry's offspring may well be overlooked, like those of Pleasant Tap, etc., because they are just not "beautiful" in the classic sense.

You would think the runners he has had would translate into good prices for his offspring but so far that is not the case.

I don't think anyone is overlooking Street Cry's good offspring.
His 2007 yearling average is $162, 324. (highest price $600,000)
His 2007 weanling average $98,333 (highest price $270,000).
As a covering sire his mares averaged $316,917.

All of those figures came from offspring bred on a $30,000 stud fee and they look like pretty handsome returns. Based on past performance, I would think his sales are only going to rise in the future.

Flaming Heart sold in foal to Street Cry for $1.5m at Keeneland last month.

I can understand Madelyn's argument (which is true of many good sires), but I think that Street Cry is an exception. His first two crops have given him Northern Dancer type numbers...I don't think that the commerical buying market is overlooking his success despite his foals having plain looks. Street Sense is no pretty boy, but I don't think that anyone would mind owning him.

And, Street Cry is Mr P line - it's not like he's Pleasant Colony/His Majestry line, which is considered poison on today's catalog page by the high end buying market.

Don't you all forget something? The damline of Nayef is packed with BLack Type, Height of Fashion also bred Nashwan and Ufuwain. Lots of class horses in this pedigree.
