Azeri Booked To Storm Cat
They blew it unless they're just going to sell her in foal to some rube.

Hi
I like El Prado with her, but I guess if you're going after the big sales dollar, Storm Cat makes sense. Personally, I would prefer A P Indy over Storm Cat from a pedigree perspective, if you were going after a big bucks sire. The El Prado matchup offers a great "Classic" pedigree.

Although I really hate sending every good mare to Storm Cat, in Azeri's case - why not... The potential pedigree doesn't look bad, although there's no fantasy in it... Azeri was tough and sound filly and to me she fits to Storm Cat physically... The foal is bred to be sale-topper, but still it's quite interesting combination...
I'd also love to see another stallion with Azeri (like Tiznow - don't kill me, they both were my darlings...
), but for the first mating I would maybe send her to Storm Cat too- just to try it, he's not so young. I only hope they'll choose another stallions in next few years - it's not worth doing another Serena's Song from such a great mare...

As bad as I to jump in on these second guessing post, I am sure that the foal will be a sale topper if not an all time record. Once again it's not driven by anything but money ( As any buisness should be, and the same thing anyone in there right mind would have done ) but once again I just can't comprehend the economics of Storm cat, $500,000 per mare at 100+ mares with progeny earnings of around 7 Million a year there is a deficet of $43,000,000 every year. Oh well to have those problems

The strike against A.P. Indy as the choice might have been feet, since he doesn't have the best and Jade Hunter, I think, tended to throw small feet that were not too durable. Anyone seen Azeri who can comment on whether she has feet like her sire's?

In this particular case, it isn't a lack of imagination so much as a lack of acceptable stallions.
What works in Serena's Song's favour is that she is a Rahy (Blushing Groom) .. You can put her to just about anyone.
Azeri's problem is that she is a Jade Hunter (Mr. Prospector) and breeding her to anything but a $250,000+ stallion is UNDER breeding her. Unfortunately, there just aren't enough stallions in that price range for her to be put to that wouldn't be close inbreeding to Prospector. In fact, currently there are only 3 stallions over $200k and one of them is a Prospector. The only other real choice would have been to send her overseas to Sadlers Wells
She's just too much of a pain in the ass mare to get bred at that price range when you are breeding to sell (which we know they are). Breeding to race is a no brainer, I'd have gone to Theatrical or Diesis.
Breeding to sell is just no good because too many of the resultant foals would be too closely inbred.
Stallion (foal inbreeding)
$200k+ Range:
A.P. Indy -- no inbreeding in first 5 generations. He has and passes on bad feet. Don't want to add that to her contracted feet.
Kingmambo -- (2x3 Prospector, 4x5 Dancer) -- Prospector inbreeding is WAY too close for comfort.
Storm Cat -- (3x5 Dancer, 5x5 Native Dancer) -- The only logical choice at this time. Expect at least 2, probably 3 from him.
$150k-$199,999 (anything under this is way underbreeding her, but I included them anyway):
Fusaichi Pegasus -- (2x3 Prospector, 4x5 Dancer) -- Prospector inbreeding is WAY too close for comfort.
Giant's Causeway -- (4x5 Dancer) -- not too bad a choice, but not a stallion I would breed to right now. Maybe in a year or two ... he's in that limbo 2nd/3rd year stage and you need to see how his first 3 crops hit the ground.
Gone West -- (2x3 Prospector) -- Kingmambo/Fusaichi Pegasus Redux
$125k-$149,999:
Awesome Again -- (3x4 Prospector, 4x5 Dancer) -- He's hot right now, but this is still underbreeding her at this point and I'd like to see how his yearlings sell for this year based on last year's success. He might make the eligible list in a year or two. I still don't like that Prospector inbreeding but it's not as close as some of the others.
Seeking The Gold -- (2x3 Prospector) -- Inbreeding is too close
Unbridled's Song -- (3x4 Prospector) -- You couldn't pay me to breed to this animal, I don't give a damn what his sales figures are. They are fragile as hell and I wouldn't want any part of them.
$100k-$124,999:
El Prado -- (3x5 Dancer, 5x5 Native Dancer) -- Maybe in a year or two. I like the match up, but he's just not commercial enough yet.
Elusive Quality (3x3 Prospector, 4x5 Dancer) -- Prospector inbreeding is too close
Empire Maker (4x3 Prospector, 4x5 Dancer/Sex Appeal thru full sibs) Unproven sire
Mineshaft (3x3 Prospector) -- Unproven sire, Prospector inbreeding is too close
Smarty Jones (4x3 Prospector, 5x5 Dancer) -- not horrid inbreeding, but you would never take her to a first year stallion.
