Suggestions for Indy Mood daughter?

Postby Roguelet » Wed Nov 21, 2007 7:29 am

We may be looking for a date for Beulahsvictorysong; I would appreciate thoughts and opinions on what would suit her best. I want a good RACEhorse, don't give a crap about the "flavor of the month" sale market. I am breeding for the Indiana program, and I would prefer a stallion owned by someone I know so I can potentially do a season swap or something... not that I expect anyone to factor that into their suggestions, mind you, I'm just sayin'. Here is some background on the filly:

We have this filly listed for sale, but she's a bit of a hard sell due to a leg scar and her non-Indiana bred status. If nobody wants her for open racing, riding, or breeding by about March or so, we'll likely breed her ourselves. She will be a 3 year old in 2008 so she'd be a 4 year old when she foaled.

I acutally think she's bred very well; by NO means is she some junk horse that I'll breed if I can't find anything else to do with. Perhaps being a broodmare is her calling anyway... who knows. It would be nice if she could race first, but we have a whole slew of Indiana bred/sired horses that we need to concentrate our training funds on, since they will not only support our stallion better, but will also allow us the opportunity to run for higher purses AND partake in breeders awards.

Anyway, she's by Indy Mood, who is a son of A.P. Indy out of a Champion-producing In Reality mare. I've been told by many who are "in the know" that he has "to die for broodmare sire blood." Her dam, Mo's Miracle, is unraced due to the owner's financial situation; she is sound and without conformation issues, they just did not have the funds to ever even get her broke so we'll never know what talent she might have had. Mo's Miracle is by Cat's Career, so Beulah was bred on the "A.P. Indy - Mr. P." nick. Her damline traces directly to the 1975 Eclipse Champion 2 YO filly Dearly Precious.

OBVIOUSLY breeding this one in-house is not an option.... yuk. So, if we do decide to breed her, we have to look past the driveway. 8)

Thoughts and suggestions, anyone?

Hi Rouge,

Your filly has a very interesting pedigree.

On her dam's side, she has a sex-switched double of Vaguely Noble and Northern Dancer, who were in turn bred on a Hyperion/Nearco cross, also sex-switched, giving the Hyperion/Nearco cross four times. She has a few more of this pattern in in Riva Ridge, Gay Missile, plus back up from Forli. That's about seven crosses.

She also has a lot of the Nasrullah/Princequillo cross from Poker, Homespun, Secretariat and his sister, and I'm so Dear, plus back up from Sir Gaylord. That makes six crosses of this pattern.

Which one is she more likely to throw to? I suspect it it might be the Hyperion/Nearco, because there is a little more of that, and Homespun has Hyperion, too. Hyperion was often crossed successfully with Man O'War and Nasrullah, and Man O'War is present throughout her pedigree.

There are several lines of La Troienne, and her sire has a triple of Somethingroyal. La Troienne crossed well with Northern Dancer, as did Seattle Slew, and Secretariat was known to like it, too.

I think she might like some more Northern Dancer, especially the ones with the Hyperion cross like Dixieland Band, Nureyev, Danzig or Lyphard. Another line she might like is Forty Niner (Nasrullah with Forli). Danzig has been working with Forty Niner, so a stallion with that cross might work for her.

Good luck and please let us know what you decide!

Hi

Have you considered Arromanches? He would double up In Reality with your mare, a pattern that has produced over 22 Graded/Group winners, including Banshee Breeze, Empire Maker, Folklore, Splendid Blended, and Glitter Woman. This mating may add a little more brilliance to the pedigree. Arromanches certainly knew how to find the winners circle, and was a solid competitor, making over 60 starts. His kids seem to be runners.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I believe I have her sold, though, so the decision is no longer mine to make.
