As a New Jersey breed to race - he'll be standing in N. J. starting 2008. Anyone have any thoughts regarding his prospects in context with other N. J. stallions ?

If I'm thinking of the right horse (trained by Kimmel and Levine), wasn't he basically a $35,000 claimer?

I believe, and could be mistaken, that was true towards the tail end of his career when at 7 - 8 yr. old he really should have been retired. Granted this was not a great race horse, and rarely went up against much, but it appears he was a solid middle distance type who was usually 2nd. or 3rd. best in handicap races such as the Shecky Greene, Seagrams Cup, Gallant Fox, Jim McKay Breeders Cup ( wasn't that the early phase of what we now know as the Breeders Cup ? ) etc. earning a bit over $800K. Given what we have in N. J., for as long as we have it, I was thinking he might be worth a shot given the breeders awards and I guess could do worse ???

nice forum you guys have here.... One of Hydrogen's last races was a 10k claimer at gulfstream. We were going to claim him from that race, I had watched his last 20 replays and liked him a lot. We also figured that if anything was wrong he could definetly make our money back as a sire, being he used to be a nice horse..... but we passed on him as my trainer didn't like the way he was walking before the race. He ran flat the whole way through the race and was claimed I believe. Although I am not sure what most people pay for a "small time" stallion at $2500 stud fee they can really make some money off of him.

He was 1 - 3, 31 times out of 47 starts, WOW. That is something, he should do ok in NJ. I'd like to see him in PA.

I love his breeding, his dam had multiple 100+k earners. I love Pleasant Colony. I'm salivating here, I need to go.........

when I watched his replays he looked like a truely talented horse. That is what he won his last races with, is talent because it appeared he was just a step off of what he once was physically.

It never ceases to amaze me what people do with Stallions........why would someone breed to a stud for $2500 when they seen the horse was running for 10K? I see so many studs that people overprice and then they bash the game as being in trouble when they cant get any mares to breed. With a stallion like that why wouldnt someone stand him for free to approved mares to try and get some foals on the ground?

RYENO: That is exactly my point of posting. I just don't think the horse was "sound" enough to race anymore and the people who took him for the 10k probably unloaded him for less than that, unless they are the ones standing him at stud. I don't know a lot about the breeding side of the industry but I would have done exactly what you suggested were he my stallion.

I noticed him in the register and liked the sound of him a lot. I think he may be a good bet for those looking to breed for stamina and I like Pleasant Colony too.

Because he didn't run for 10k his whole career. He should probably been retired awhile ago.
