Barretts sale/January Mixed?
Im interested in buying a mare from the Barretts mixed January sale, can anyone recomend an agent to purchase through and or shipping company that comes east from there?
You can also register to bid online, and then just have someone pick the horse up and board it for you. Matt from Applebite Farm has told me he is willing to do this (209-652-3655) if you wanted to bring the horse to Northern California.
The on-line bidding is very easy, but you only have a few inches of video, so you won't be able to see their legs in any great quality. If you do plan on doing the online bidding, be sure to log on plenty early, because sometimes the Live Global Bid site requires more downloading. You must get credit from Barretts in advance, which requires returning the credit page from the catalog, and you have to take that to your bank to be signed off. So the initial sign up is a bit of a pain, but after I did it once, they have given me credit for every subsequent sale just by my clicking one button.

Also, I'd really recommend checking into flying the horse to NY rather than vanning. Twice now, I've flown horses through AirEquine.net from Oakland to Newark via Fedex, and it was $1000 cheaper ($3850 vs. $4800) than the cheapest van quote I got, and the horse is only in transport one day rather than two weeks on a van. No brainer! You can pick them up yourselves at Newark or Philly if you want to save money, or they will organize a van company to pick it up for you and deliver wherever. I picked the last horse up myself, and saw the hay and water available, the AirEquine handlers that travel with the horses at all times, and the safe stall. The Fedex people were really professional with the horses, and I would use AirEquine again in a minute.

Maxjmom,
thanks for that post, I am going to recycle my pop bottles and looking at buying a mare in foal in the Keeneland Nov sale in the next couple of years (gonna get me a gooder as I say) and have wondered on how to get the mare back to Alberta (we have some nice incentive programs on buying mares at auction to improve the local population).
