which one to choose...need opinions!!!!!

That's not a lot to work from. Leallah M. is 21, I'd pass thought she has had a few useful foals.

Majestic Evening is 17 and has done little.

Cowboy Toy is only 12 (young in comparison) but her first foal is poor and she's missed every other year. Her coverstallion is weak.

Why one of these three since there's little to like about them? Seems like you're picking up someone's problems.

Have you thought about what will happen to the foal after your children experience a breeding season? Is there a plan for the mare going forward?

With horses, the purchase price is the least of your financial worries. It's the upkeep that's expensive, especially as you'll (potentially) have both a mare and a foal to take care of.

now hear this ..now hear this........your heading for a ledge with a long drop......turn the car and take another road. ....as for the mare that miss's every other year...your experianceing the breeding season might last two years...think long and hard.

Well, I do think some other posters have made valid points about costs, but I also hear you regarding wanting to get an inexpensive mare. So.... to answer your question:
The best mare IMO is Leallah M. She's a stakes producer and is a 1/2 to 2 SWs and a stks pl. And, I like Big Spruce, her sire. I also think Announce is a decent stallion. The downside - and it's a biggie - is that she's an '87 model. With good management, you might be able to get another foal or two out of her, but she likely needs Regumate (which is expensive) and may have other issues. Would you be able to retire her if this is her last foal?

I'd take Cowboy Toy as the second best, mainly b/c of the covering sire.

Majestic Evening's first foal could run a bit. But, she's getting on in years, too. She has a little pedigree behind her - half to a couple of stakes horses, by Majestic Light and out of a stakes placed Damascus mare. But, her foals have sold poorly and it makes me wonder if they didn't look good. I'm not in love with the covering sire, either. I think this foal would have the least value based on pedigree and the mare is entering the stage where she's going to be harder to get and keep in foal.

regumate for 55 days or so is not going to break you.......if thats a concern you should not even try breeding.

hi pete, i stand corrected then.....speaking from my own experiances ive only used it for 55 days max and its worked like a charm.....but thats my experiance so i stand corrected.
