Why has he gone so cold? He only serviced about 100 mares (combined) in 2006 and 2007, and his stud fee was dropped to $10,000. I always viewed him as a pretty solid sire (probably tops in Florida), but for some reason, the bloom is off the rose.

Are there any mares in Ocala worth his old fee of $20,000?

He's decided to get choosy about who & when he breeds.

Probably some element of "what-have-you-done-for-me-lately" going on too. He had a hot year in 2003 with Trust N Luck, Chapel Royal, and Shake You Down all grabbing attention but hasn't really had a "name" runner since.

His book is restricted, he only breeds one mare a day.

It's too bad he isn't very fertile because they did breed Inside Information to him but she didn't get in foal.

It's nice to have that Montbrook blood in California via Thunderello, who sired G2 winner Monterey Jazz.

There are a plenty of mares in florida worth his old fee of $20,000. We ship the majority of our mares to Kentucky, but have traditionally bred to the better Florida studs, including Montbrook. There are top breeders in Florida with world class mares, including Bridlewood Farm, Live Oak Stud, and many others.

He has cooled off the last few years, but those results are often cyclical. As Mahubah said, he had a huge year with Trust N Luck, Shake You Down and Chapel Royal, which would have precipitated his move up to the $20K fee, but those mares were bred in '04 and '05, which means that those horses are going to be running this year and next.

Also, his foal crop has come way down, with just 58 2 year olds and 38 yearlings. That's probably a combination of his fertility and the 20K fee, which will both contribute to his drop to $10,000.

Yes, she had her Broad Brush foal in Florida. I can't recall her name off the top of my head but she was never nominated for the BC and was retired after making a few starts.

I believe that Inside Information has had problems (EPM maybe) so they thought having her foal in FL would help her. It was documented that she was bred to Montbrook, that wasn't hearsay.

Montbrook has excellent synthetic stats. I look for him to make a comeback.

I've seen a couple nice Montbrooks at OBS Feb, including Hip #130 from Ocala Stud, out of Unlimited Pleasure. She's a full to G3 winner Beacon Shine.
