THE GREEN MONKEY HAS RETIRED

http://drf.com/news/article/92215.html

going to stand in FL in 09.

I am anxious to see two things

1) what can you possibly advertise that's positive for this boy?

2) what is his stud fee going to be?

I am anxious to see what kind of mares he gets. Any ideas beyond mares with strong butt muscles.

The ad is gonna read "Breed to the most expensive yearling ever!"

And not much else...

At least they are putting him into a regional market where he might, I say might, get a few mares worth his while. Don't know if he'll improve them...we'll see in 2012.

He is cute. Is he a nice mover?
He might make a nice sport horse sire.

All I can say is WOW... looks like the most expensive BYB experiment ever. They're probably HOPING that a sibling does something this year...can't wait to see the marketing spin they come up with. Is there QH racing in FL?

I am anxious why they wait until 2009. No excuse to say that many breeders already have decided for a stallion.
I like a more proven sire.

If you remember the post when they named this poor bugger, we all called it. How could anyone name a horse The Green Monkey. He was doomed from the day they named him.
I find it more than interesting that the great race horses always have great names. I really don't think it is just coincidence---it is very bad Karma to name a horse poorly....Do others agree with me?
best regards Brendan

I don't know why Hill N'Dale doesn't stand him. Maybe he'd become best friends with Mr Sekiguchi - $24 Million and seven starts between them.

I have an unraced Seattle Dancer mare that sold well & has had 10 foals 5 to race with no winners including a Tiger Ridge & she is booked to Mr Sekiguchi & I am on the phone now finalizing an 09 date to The Green Monkey. Tell me what you all think of this mating? The mares name is Million Dollar Cull. Thanks

note to the above even though none of Culls offspring won they all showed great promise & could really move in the pasture.

I have found through many years of observation that a horse runs faster in the pasture than on the track. I have no hard scientific data to back this up other than a much lighter pocketbook!!

He was not the most expensive yearling ever, he was the most expensive TWO YEAR OLD sold at auction. He went for $425K as a yearling.

It is sad for the horse. A pal of mine who has worked the TYOIT sales has so many horror stories about the tactics. One stands out in my mind, regarding a big grey colt that actually developed a hairline fracture of a front cannon bone in his "race of a lifetime" (the burst of speed to get that sub nine second furlong). The final day of the sale, they shot him up with painkillers and just prayed no one would run their hand down that cannon bone (which would have got him absolutely crazed with pain). No one did, and they went home with $150K for him and a big sigh of relief.

Hi Madelyn,

I agree that the TYOIT sales are very tough on he horses. It really can have a negative effect on many of these 2yos.

I do not, however, feel sad for this particular horse. He accomplished nothing on the track, yet, he gets to spend the rest of his life getting busy without having to work hard to find his "dates"! I'm envious.
